Happy hens at Christmas

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was a very exciting day for my 3 rescue girls...They discovered the world beyond the !gored! extended run & spent the day scrabbling, pecking at the remnants of last year's vegetable patch & generally behaving like real chickens. They were so sweet...Ivy, who is the friendliest of the 3, kept coming over to check that it was all OK & tell me about it, then going back to join in with her friends. Lovely.

:D

That is smashing news!!!!!

My original ex-batt was a killer spider eater (who knew?) when we were demolishing an old shed to make way for a new one. She was in chook-heaven scratching for spiders and woodlice and the songs she sang (oh, ok, chookie purrs!) were absolutely fabulous.

So comforting to know their innate nature survives the barrage of human dictatorship in the guise of battery farming!

They are out again today :D

I'm very tempted to let them free range with other girls, but they are still SO threadbare and scraggy that I worry they will be picked on quite seriously, so that will have to wait a bit longer. They've been with me 3 weeks now - don't LOOK any tidier, but are clearly happy and at home (and 2 seem to be determined to lay eggs despite my best efforts to talk them out of it). Think I'll try them on some tuna to encourage them to grow more feathers (lol...son came in then and asked, quite seriously, whether it wouldn't make them grow scales!)

I'm so so glad they are here!

Happy days :D:D

:lol::lol: My four had a big bowl of cat food to share for their xmas dinner - hope they're not going to grow fur (or grow big, fat and lazy and sleep on my bed all day!)

My Mistletoe's been out of her cage for just over a year now and says a big "hi and welcome to the world!" to yours. She came out in snow and thought the world only came in white for the first two weeks, till we had a thaw . There's nothing quite like chistmas chickens :D
