Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

I went to work today really excited because of yesterdays first egg arrival from Phoebe since they stopped laying in Oct/Nov.

I said to them in my over excitedness "guess what I got yesterday ? An egg !!"

They looked at me and said "mmm, that's nice" and carried on working

Fran laid a lovely blue egg on New Years Day and another today.

I had them poached with grilled bacon. I really miss the egg bounty in the winter.

I was beginning to miss the taste of my own eggs too. Shop eggs just don't tatse the same.

However,I'm afraid our over-excitedness, which I am still waiting to experience since September *taps foot oh so impatiently at girls who are both young and old enough to lay somebody (obviously not me) zillions of eggs*, does not rub off well on non-chicken owning folk. Sigh.....They just don't understand us

I'm lucky in that I've not had a totally egg free day yet, it does help having 23 chickens. Two of my pekins have just started to lay so I'm getting tiny eggs at the moment. I did get excited when I got my first pekin egg though.

No you're not alone!! I love finding the eggs too! Mind you I don't think you can beat the excitement when my 8 yr old daughter finds one of her hen's eggs each one has to be checked to see if it's still warm, she then Thanks her hen before very proudly adding it to the egg skelter...Awwww!!

Luckily the woman we pay to do our ironing (she's more of a family friend now though!), as chickens, so I get a good natter twice a week when she visits

I've been away, they've been shut in their runs, I didn't check the nest boxes yesterday as it was late, dark and cold, and hey presto AN EGG!!!!! Well done whoever it was, I suspect a large orpington lady This childish feeling of glee doesn't ever seem to go away it seems
