Malfunctioning Dishwasher....Help Please!

Recommended Posts

Our hardworking but not very old (about 3 years!) dishwasher has started leaving a gritty residue on cups and glasses on the top shelf. We run cleaner through it regulally and have just done so and have checked and cleaned the drain bit but its still doing it - albeit intermittently! We are now worried that the wretched thing is about to die on us - not a good time of year financially esp with car ins coming up in Feb too:pray: !

Has anyone else had the same problem and what was the upshot?

PS Sorry, this is a really boring thread!

Ours sometimes does this too, and it's only a year old. It seems to happen when it's choc full - perhaps something is stopping the spray arm from spinning? I also use Planet Clean tabs (because they are animal/environment friendly) although I don't think they clean as efficiently as other brands such as Finish.

I'd be interested to know what others think too.

Oh ours does this too. It's about 2 or 3 years old. A Bosh so should be a good make. It is most odd as some cups will have the residue and the rest are spotless. Same with wineglasses. I find it bakes it on really hard as well, so you end up having to soak then for ages. We used to use Fairy tabs but are using Finish with the red ball - I prefer the Fairy ones. I also clean my machine using the purpose made bottles and empty out the spin arm and the filter. I also make sure the spin arms spin freely. And it still does it, so I would love to know what causes it :?

Mine misbehaves when the salt is running out, things just don't look clean and goes very streaky, so when i top up the salt i do the rinse finish at the same time .

I do tend to do a wash programme on the hottest programme every month with Finish dishwasher cleaner, i have tried others but they don't get my machine as clean.

Like others have said remove and rinse clean both the arms, clean out the filter and make sure your salt and rinse aid are topped up. Definately worth running a cleaner through it on the hottest wash as well. I never use mine on a low temp as I'm frightened of gunk and dirt building up in the DW like it does in a washing machine.

I think that this is a general thing that Dishwashers do sometimes - like washing machines being prone to the grey gunge from hell

Like others have said, give all the filters a really good going over, check the arms for obstructions that are stopping them spinning, check the wheels are good,as if they have perished than the tray can sit lower & stop the arms spinning (happened to us), top up the salt & rinse aid & do a cleaning cycle too.

Also when you load it,make sure the arms can spin freely & that they are not being stopped by anything poking up or hanging down too much.

Also the cleaners only clean (ok obvious I know) but you should de grease too - Mines a AEG and if you google dishwasher make and "degreaser" you should get a link telling you how to order - failing that I got mine off amazon - about £3 summat a bottle and you degrease about 3X a year. This is what man told my friend who passed this info onto me.
