lindafw
Feeling a bit down n blue. Yet again I have realised that work/life balance is lacking. Working and looking after the house and animals is all there is. Anyone in my area fancy finding a social life with me...
patsylabrador
Have you checked out the Get Together bit of the forum? There might be something happening near you on there.
Olly
Sorry, I am not in your area, but my recommendation is to join something local. Evening classes, running club, dance classes, choir - whatever you fancy. It's the best way to meet people- just going to the gym doesn't work as you rarely get into conversation with people there. It takes time, and you might have to be brave and make the first move in suggesting a social event outside the class/club/organisation, but it's always worked for me. Volunteering for a charity is also a good way to get to know local people. I moved to London in 1997 knowing only two people, apart from my elderly parents who were the reason for me moving back here. These days, an evening at home is a rare treat! Luvachicken
I've been going to Zumba since September and I have made friends there. I am quite shy and it takes me a while to get to know people but everyone there have all become friends. It is a good laugh, you don't need to know how to dance - just a bit of coordination and balance. And, since it has become a new love I now go twice a week to get my fix
lindafw
Thankyou for the idea's..been and done the dancing..but a fall put a stop to it. Very nice ladies but all living there own lives and not interested in anything outside the class. Saw a Chicken coop being delivered to a house in Andover so will be keeping an eye out for new chicken posts

yvonne
When I was in a new area some years ago, I joined a group called Spice and made some fantastic friends through it. It arranges all sorts of things and you just go to what appeals (pub quizes to microlight flying were some of the things I tried). I think I went to one or two events before joining - think there's an annual fee (not too huge) and a fee for each event.
