Introducing Lavendar 2

Recommended Posts

After discovering our Lavender Mark one was a little boy, we would now like to introduce Lavendar 2

My goodness she can't half fly :o

I had let the oldies out on the paddock on Saturday afternoon and gave the babies a chance to stretch their legs with the full WIR. As they are on Flubenvet, couldnt use any treats to get Lavendar back from underneath the (cube purple) so got hubby to shoo her back into the run for me so I could pop her back in their separated area.

Well she flew up to the top of the WIR (Over my head) . I think she is going to need a little wing clipping before she is allowed out to FR

On a separate note, Marigold managed to find a hole between the bits of shower curtain, chicken wire and recyled omlet run and put herself to bed in the cube with the others at nighttime. She is still only tiny in comparison, so I am not ready to risk it and popped her back in the !goyellow!

She might think she is ready, but I doubt the big girls will be convinced

These two new young ladies are lovely, Lavendar is very skittish and doesnt like being picked up, little miss independant.

I didnt know much about the Vorwerk at all, but Marigold is turning out to be a lovely bird. She is still getting used to being handled, but was quite happy to just perch on my hand for ages on Saturday whilst I sat in with them. She has lovely bright eyes and is very alert. Her comb is just starting to poke through, still tiny though.

The oldies are becoming more indifferent. Bluebell, bottom of the pecking order seems to be the one likely to cause the most trouble. I suppose she is trying to make sure that she doesnt end up bottom out of the 5 of them. I think she may have her work cut out. Lavendar seems pretty fearless and squares up to any of them that dare to have a go. Marigold seems pretty plucky too and is clever enough to stay out of the way.

I wish I could stary and watch them all day

She's such a cutie (and a lovely red face! )

I had the same issue with my lavender araucana last year - Agathat become Albert  - had to be replaced with Petra who is pretty much identical to your lavender

:anxious::anxious::anxious:

 Maybe I should go outside and check she is still there?

Mum,

I am still a bit wary of clipping her wing, just in case :?

She feels different to Lavendar 1, she does seem to have the longer neck feathers, but they seem much more downy and soft in comparison so I hope she is a girly. But she is very cocky with the oldies, which is still making me wary.

Hoping she might give me a lovely !eggblue! soon to reassure me, then we can clip her wing and she can come and play out in the garden.

Linda,

Whilst I think Marigold thinks she is ready she has yet to meet the wrath of the old girls. Marigold is tiny and is still only quite young, about 16/18 weeks I think, so I dont want to cause her any undue stress, she is growing daily though, and we have the little bumps of a comb poking through now. I think she got away with it, as Bluebell was already tucked up in bed and the other two were having a last minute poke around. If it was first thing she would have known about it.

Lillybetty,

My first Lavendar was supposed to be 18 weeks when we picked her up.

Now I would say that she looked very similar to Lavendar 2, but within just a few days, her neck feathers grew longer with golden beige highlights. By the following Saturday after putting her next to the others, she faced off one of the old girls, and all of this beautiful plumage stuck straight out from her neck. That gave me a mighty big suspicion that this girl of mine was not!

By Monday, my Baby Girl gave me 2 wonderful crows, and he had to go back :(

Would have loved to have kept him.

So.....If my breeder has her dates right, you may be lucky and have three lots of !eggblue!

From the look of her neck feathers, I'm going to stick my neck out and say she is a hen! Why? Because the male neck feathers sort of curl towards the back of the neck whereas the girls neck feathers do not (in my, albeit rather limited, experience anyway) Finger's X'd for you.

Really hope that Lavendar Mark 2 is a girl, she is so pretty and I love that colour. Really interesting hearing about your intros too, I find it so nerve wracking making sure I am doing the right thing by everyone. Last year I introduced a black silkie who settled really quickly and a bantam Orpington who was a little madam and decided she would guard all the food so I had several feeding stations. She often missed out as she was running between them which was really funny. Now you would think they had always been together.

Thank you, the new girls are both lovely.

They seem to be desperate to get in with the big girls. The last 2 mornings, I have let them out and as soon as I have turned my back Lavendar has managed to get in with the others, I left her for a bit this morning to see what happened.

Bluebell, currently bottom chuck, had a few pecks and Chilli, top chuck, had a bit of a chase, but nothing too worrying. Popped her back into the playpen as I had to go to work.

My dad is complaining though, he can't get them into bed!

The babies try and roost on top of the !goyellow! They really dig their heels in when he tries to get them off and into bed. He thinks they want to sleep in the (cube purple) and are having a sit in :D

I think I might let them all start sleeping together at the weekend, then just separate them in the day for another couple of weeks and see how it goes, anyone tried this before?
