Omlet Eglu Auto Door and Light

Hi All,

 

I have my hens in a cube with a standard run and an extension. I have just been thinking about what to put in to help so they do not get bored! I can't let them out unsupervised as we have loads of foxes where I live.

 

I was just wondering what sort of things people put in there run to make it more interesting for the hens? I do put woodchip on the ground and luckily there is a tree stump in the run which they love jumping on. I have also put in a couple of logs and few CD's are hanging down. Am I missing anything else that could brighten up their day?

I picked up ta bale of straw for £3.50.

Sprinkle a bit of corn on it and they have a good scratch, in the afternoon they jump up for a bit of sun a snooze and to watch the world go by, also doubles as a seat for me

Best £3.50 I've spent!

Ikea shoe racks cable tied together and fitted through the sides of the run give a nice hopping on and off and perching area .

It was in an eglu run rather than a cube, but the same principles should apply! The ends of the rack fit perfectly through the holes in the run . You could always put a couple of canes through for the shoerack to rest on if you think it needs support.

I made a mezannine level and put perches across the run using 1x1/2 ish wood with sides sanded a wooden ikea stool is good.

Not yet having any hens, I can't say if this works or is a complete gimmick, but I know these always worked well with other pets we've had (specific to them...not the chicken ones...lol).

Just relieved I am along the right lines, got some feather plucking going on with one of the hens on the other two so I don't want them to be bored!!

I got one of these as my Secret Santa (my friends know me well! ) and once they stopped being scared of it my girls loved it!

Now I'm not sure if I should get one, but I guess that if it is there from the beginning it might be easier to get used too?!
