TooLilac
Hi there, I have a wooden coop, and want to treat it (and a spare one) with creosote as a preventative. However it seems that getting 'proper' creosote is going to be more difficult than I thought. The local agricultural shop won't sell it for domestic use, apparently only to people with a special licence! Any ideas where I can buy some? Thanks! Olly
I think it's been banned, so the answer you've been given is probably right - only available to those with a licence.
Purplemaniacs
I agree with Olly I think it is banned for the general public. Chrissie
Redwing
It is tricky to get hold of and if you manage it then it's usually only available in 25l size drums I have some old tins and I use it sparingly but I have found the good quality substitute stuff to be effective against red mite to some degree too
Griffin
I bought a drum of it on Ebay a couple of years ago. I creosote my coops twice a year. I actually look forward to it It's blooming hard work and I stink afterwards for days
Luvachicken
I love the smell of creosote, or used to, but it has been banned in this country for a while and I'm sure I read somewhere that selling and using it by the public was banned because of it's cancer causing effects. bottledcherryangel
I thought it had been banned over here because it was found to be carcinogenic.
The Dogmother
I thought it had been banned over here because it was found to be carcinogenic. You're right - you need an agricultural license to buy it now. I love the smell too
