My Pekin Girls - more photos today!

Recommended Posts

Had them a fortnight now and they have settled in well. Have clipped their wings so they are now free-ranging in the garden all day long and love it. Don't know whether it's because of being a different breed but they are really well behaved and very clever hens! I sometimes used to have to pick my old large fowl hens up and put them to bed but these two girlies take their selves off to bed everynight and when it's raining they go into their ark for cover (my other hens used to just stay out and get soaked ) Still got to sort out their feet properly, were very muddy when I first got them but they look abit better, think I will have to cut the mud off rather than soak it off. But they are a delight & I've realised that I've missed having chickens.

Beautiful girls you have!!!

I would try the soak route (plus blow-dry  ) for the muddy clumps before resorting to cut them off. Why?

a) it gives you a sense of satifaction - mud is soluable  )

b) if you have not "cut" before, soaking is a safer option - I speak from experience of cutting one hens "nails" and causing a bleed I felt awful about!

c) It gives you hands-on-cuddle-time! Pricelss in terms of them understanding who you are and also their place in the flock

d) I cannot see their feet so my opinion is based on my experience rather than your reality.

Oo they are so sweet!!! :D

You've posted nice quality photos too - posh camera?

Thank you, they are very entertaining girls :-) I have a Nikon D3100 SLR, quite expensive but definitely worth the money would recommend it to anyone!

Please post lots of pics, I don't think many of us here would get bored of them! 8)

Is that Garvo special mixed corn? That's how good your camera is!

They are stunning girls 8)8) ... you're getting a couple more then??

Yes it is  Got some today and they loved it! Might be getting a couple more, the ark is big enough for one or two more and there is a lady about 10 mins away who might have some available so just waiting to hear back from her :D

Your two latest girls are very beautiful :!: What colour will the new ones be? I think a whole flock of different coloured pretties would be so nice.

I'm going to have a look tomorrow, thinking just two more. The lady has four available at the moment, 1 buff, 1 chocolate, 1 black and 1 gold partridge so will be a good mix. Will see which I like when I get there :D
