Mentioned on the Briche thread that the fan element in my Zanussi oven has just gone; I've been reading how expensive it is to get it replaced and how easy it is to do it yourself - has anyone actually tried it? I watched a you tube video and it looked ok (providing you don't electrocute yourself ).

The element went on my Rangemaster last year & my Husband fitted a replacement one with no trouble at all, but he is very handy with stuff like that.

The same week the element also went on the Dualit toaster & was also replaced by us.

I phoned round when I got ours done. Price ranged from £180 (cough splutter!!!) to £79.. including the part, vat and fitting.

We have a Neff and when ours went, OH found a replacement on the internet and it just plugged in. If you are at all handy then I think it's easy. But if not, phone round for the best deal.

We've had a look at the element and have decided to have a go ourselves, so after a lot of looking at part nos and spares have ordered one on the net.

We always do our own, we buy the elements on ebay and always have a spare after ours went on Christmas day one year. We get through one every 9 months or so because I bake a lor of bread at high temperatures and the oven gets a lot of use. We have paid £25+ for them from electrical shops but only £8 on ebay, we have a Belling.

Hubby did mine - I have a Zanussi too - one of the ceramic rings went - we bought one but could not replace it but got a domestic engineer to do it - so now we know how to the next time - he was really cheap and good.

Well the element arrived but despite saying it was a genuine Zanussi part for my oven it had a different number of fixings , so it has to go back. But we are getting braver at mending things as we have managed to change the ceramic cartridge in our mixer tap that was dripping .
