craftyhunnypie
Can someone please tell me why when you want to hatch quail - they only sell the eggs in 12's, 24's or even more? Is the hatch success rate low or something? Just wondered, as considering a few. Thanks. Emma.x
Lewis
I bought 24 eggs, after cracked eggs I set 19 and got 8 chicks (homemade incy though) Being so small little variations can affect them so guess they're more fragile! Probably also 'cos to buy 6 would be really cheap!
Redwing
I think its because people tend to keep a few quail in a group if they want to breed so the adults tend to get sold as groups of 4 or 5 so to realistically achieve this at home its better to hatch more than 6 eggs as although hatch rates tend to be very good the baby quail are quite delicate and in my limited experience if they are at all slow in getting out of the egg they dont do well at all Also as Lewis says the price does come in to it - quails eggs are very cheap
