Firstly I put a perscription in at our chemists this Saturday, so I can collect it next Saturday, so it was submitted two and a half weeks before pills run out, so I can collect when I have 10 days pills left. Saturdays are really the only time I can do this as I work fulltime Mon-Fri when they are open. I get home at 6pm today to a message from the doctors saying that I have requested the pills too early so they haven't processed it - there is only one person I can speak to - she is only working when I cannot ring from work, but until I speak to her they will not process it! If you leave it too late they will never bend on their 48 hours to process a perscription, so the window of opportunity between too far in advance and too late seems very narrow. And the other rant is stats on the telly - secondary school place allocations were 1st March - the BBC reported 98% of children in (rural) Cornwall get their 1st choice school, but in (urban) London it is only 30% - have they thought about the logic of this statement? In most parts of Cornwall the options available in a 10 mile radius are probably only 1 school - so they are saying, if I live on the Scilly isles (1 school) the chances are I get that one school (i.e. there is no choice/alternative). However, within a 10 mile radius in London there are a number of alternative schools and everyone wants the best school in the area. It is not rockert science is it that they are comparing apples and oranges and concluding bananas?!! I am sure you have other exdamples of the mad world we live in! Snowy Posted March 6, 2012 Share Posted March 6, 2012 I know what you mean about prescriptions TAJ - if I have to put mine in early, I always put on it now that I am going on holiday Donald - you have to go to the same pharmacy as it is the repeat slip you take in, the chemist sends it to the GP, who sends a new prescription back to the chemist for you to collect. It's a bonkers system - especially when you are on meds for life and have to go through this rigmarole every month! Actually glad you posted this, as mine is now due. Saves a trip to the drs twice (to drop off repeat request and then collecting it). Could the receptionist at your drs pass on a message saying why you ordered them early etc? Seems very daft. Or could work not let you have a 10 minute break to call the surgery? It might be an idea to make an appointment to see your dr and discuss the problem you have with getting your prescriptions in enough time so you don't run out, and maybe they can put a note on your details about it for future drs? I cannot do that the issue is with the doctors not issuing the perscription - the pharmacy have given them my repeat slip - it is the doctors that are not processing it. I did a letter for my doctor and the person I was asked to ring and left it before 8am this morning explain the situation - the trouble is it is not a case of just ringing the doctors - it is only the one person who works odd shifts I am 'allowed' to speak to - I have been in meeting or in a lecture room when she works - at times I can ring (when the surgery is open) she isn't working and though they have taken messages for me explaining no one is following my request to please leave an answer on my home answerphone so I get a response when I get home - after the surgery closed, so I cannot chase them! I wonder what they call early anyway? I guess in the time that they have wasted this week if they put it into the computer now it probably wouldn't say it was too early. They lady is apparently working until 6.30 tomorrow night, so I plan to get out of work early so I can ring her before they close - but I cannot predict an early finishing time will be possible. Every time I pick up the repeat medications they ask what I will need in 2 months time. They then tell me what date to go back and I just have to give my name and pick it up. Space Chick Posted March 8, 2012 Share Posted March 8, 2012 And God forbid you need an appointment to see a doctor With ours you have to ring at 8am for an appointment the same day, but of course everyone is having to ring, so it's a constant engaged, redial until you finally get through... By which time you may not get an appointment anyway (particularly if you want an appointment last thing as you are working ) Because I have recently had heart problems, they have taken my Meds off repeat as they want to review me monthly, so now I have to play the calling and booking game every month, so I can see the Dr and get my prescriptions Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Their 'rule' is any request more than a week in advance is too early, but they take 48 hours, so the min & max do not give much room for manover! Apparently anything over a week is too early, they are not open weekends and take 48hours to process, so the window without running out is pretty short. I home phone hasn't worked since Friday, I reported it Saturday, BTs 'service standard' is within 3 days, but that is 3 working days, soapparently doesn't start counting until Monday (today) and it looks like 3 nights - they say they 'hope' to get an engineer to look at the line by 6pm Thursday - I count that as 6 days, not 3!!
