the run will be sunk in the ground with mesh under the edges to help prevent digging and we are going to put paving round the outside edges over the mesh for even more protection.

I am looking forward to getting the chooks now,we have been to several different places and we have 1 more to check out.

I would like a bluebell,black/copper and either an amber or legbar cross/columbine.most of the places we have been have some kind of version of each.I have found a really lovely place Briggs poultry in Alford Lincolnshire, the lady there was fab and let us have a good look at all the different breeds and was so helpful.we saw the pics on her site but had not seem them in the flesh so to speak and she was more than happy to show us them even though we were not buying that day.she had the most gorgeous blue haze with a copper neck,it was beautiful.

going to look at the last place on Sat before we decide where to buy from.I am being very fussy this time lol I think it is because we have waited so long to get some more and spent so much time/money getting everything right.maybe my work mates are right and I am a bit mad lol

Oh I do like that Eco Hen Loft. It is wonderfully traditional in style while still being bang up to date. It is a really good idea too to check out what hens are like in the feather, so to speak, rather than making decisions based on pictures in books. This is one thing I never did and wish I had done.

Are these your first hens or have you had them before (as your signature has lots of pertty Sussex chooks on it)?

The chooks on the pic were our first ones, which we sadly lost to the fox over a year ago,it has taken us this long to take the plunge and get some more which is why we are trying to make sure everything is as secure as possible.

great to hear from someone else who has got chickens from somewhere we have looked,I think that is where we will be going.

we have managed to get the frame up,door on and the mesh on sides and roof of WIR ,just need to do the end sections and mesh the door.

we have been out tonight and done some more work on the run,it is a slow job fastening all the wire to the frame.

we should hopefully be done by the weekend and if we are then we will go chook shopping.

I am so excited,I was not sure if would have chickens again as I was so upset when we lost our lovely ladies.

I have even got names for 4 of them, just need another 2

I am having shelly,popcorn,crunchie and templeton(my oh's choice)
