chris170284
hello everyone this is my first time keeping chickens i have 3 brown hens ( isa or Lohmann browns i dont know) and a golden laced cochin cockerel which i rescued this week he was being attacked by an older cockerel and later found out he has lice/mites hes been treated now tho so hopefully hell be on the mend soon. anyway my question is do hens lay at the same time each day or is it an hour later each day? the reason im asking is my first hen layed 6 days straight an hour later each day then my second and 3rd hen followed a couple of days later laying an hour later each day aswell but now they are all laying radomly now,one even layed in the run also do hens lay at night all mine lay in the afternoon they all started laying in the morning, now emma is laying just before they are put to bed. thanks
Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new girls (and rescued boy) . I think I read that an egg takes 25 hours from start to finish so the theory is that they should be an hour later each day. Mine obviously haven't read the manual though, as they lay any time from early morning to lunchtime. I hardly ever get an egg in the afternoon or evening. jennym
I'm with ANH, mine haven't read the manual either. Things go all out of synch sometimes, particularly when one's had a days off - I never know when they're next will come. I've stopped trying to predict it now

jomeena
Hello and welcome to the crazy world of the chicken keeper ( or the people the chickens decide to train as their slaves ). Ours mainly lay in the mornings but have never had a set time, I have opened the coop at 6.30 in the morning to find a egg waiting. They must have thought I needed a good breakfast. Good luck with your girls and boy. Have fun
