hilda-and-evadne
Of the most recent batch of six marans eggs I have tried to hatch, one had to be removed because leaking; three failed to hatch at all; two did hatch 12 hours apart. I left them in the incubator for 60 hours/48 hours respectively because of losing all but one last time when I moved them after 24 hours or so. Last night they were fine, fluffy and active. This morning was when the two chicks would be ready to move to the brooder. Sometime between late last night and this morning the incubator fan broke and stopped working. This morning I found the chicks soaking wet, distress cheaping, and there was a smell of mildew. I moved both to the brooder immediately. One has already died, 11 hours after being put in the brooder. The other looks "tottery" on its legs, although it wasn't tottery when in the incubator. This is only the third hatch I have done with the incubator, it is less than a year old. This is so depressing.
Redwing
Brinsea incubators should last longer than a year They offer a two year warranty and have a very good reputation for customer service so I am sure they will help you Of course it wont bring the chick back
chestnutmare
Oh that's really sad. I'd definitely give Brinsea a call. I expect mine to last years nevermind one!
hilda-and-evadne
Thank you, Redwing and chestnutmare. I will contact Brinsea and send it back to them. Am wondering if it came from a dodgy batch manufactured at Brinsea. With the first mini eco that I bought from FSF the thermostat wasn't working - temperature didn't reach the factory setting even after 24 hours - and FSF sent out this one as a replacement. FSF were very helpful, and it isn't their fault. But I will probably buy one now from Omlet in the hope that it will be from a different batch. chestnutmare
I have eggs in a Brinsea mini eco at the moment, I bought it recently from Omlet. I have to say that I have had no trouble with it (yet!). http://www.brinsea.co.uk/whybuybrinsea/ - states 2 yr guarantee, renowned for quality and reliability. So I think you're covered! Forgive the question, but did you make sure that the air vents and the fan were cleaned out before setting this batch? Because chicks do create an inordinate amount of fluff, which quickly blocks the fan and may cause temperature fluctuations, and eventually the fan will fail.
