Touch screen phone - screen not responsive

Recommended Posts

Anyone else having problems?

I thought it was just my HTC Wildfire which seems to have screen sensitivity problems, especially in the hot weather, Lewis has the same phone and problems too. I spoke to a friend about it and he has the same issues with his iPhone.... just how widespread and common is this?

My Wildfire has been ok, but it is difficult to see the screen outdoors even with the brightness up. I find that my screen does become unresponsive from time to time and this can be solved by turning it off and and on again. My OH was told a couple of years back when he got a touchscreen phone that because they are very computer like they need to be rebooted from time to time. I did try to answer it on a rainy day once and it was hopeless even with a couple of fine raindrops on it.

I presume you haven't had sun cream on your hands when using it, because that would coat the screen?

I get the same problem sometimes on the iPhone. To be honest I think it is nearing the end of its life, (20 months old).

Sometimes I receive calls and can't swipe to answer them, which is very frustrating. Screen will stop moving.

Seems to be worse in cold weather.

Phone can be on, and with a good signal but if you ring me you go straight to answer phone.

I now find I am rebooting the phone everyday.

Also annoyed with myself as I renewed my 24 month contract early to get the phone and have to wait for December to renew.

I've cleaned the screen with the stuff I use t clean my specs, I have turned it off and on again. Updating the phone software worked temporarily but it's but to sluggish to unresponsive again

This phone is not yet a year into a 24 month contract and while it's generally fine, this can be really annoying for all the reasons above.

This may interest you:

My daughters friend recently moved back to Australia &her iPhone stopped working after a few days.....the tough screen stopped working.

She went to an Apple store & they said that Aussie phones have a totally different make-up to European phones,so that they can cope with the extreme temperatures - they swapped it for an Aussie friendly model for her :D

I keep my HTC out of the direct sun (It is a Desire) & its been fine,as have the Husbands & Daughters phones, but none of us have Wildfires, which may be more sensitive to extreme heat,as they are a cheaper model HTC phone???

I suspect that the newer models of HTC phones, like the Desire, Desire s & the new One,are made to a spec more suited to extremes.

The Wildfire is the least expensive of the HTC range,so in all probability no extra work was done to make it cope with such extremes.

As I mentioned,we have had no problems,& my Husbands phone was sat in the dash of his locked van all day yesterday!

Another thing to consider is if you have slightly sweaty or suncreamy fingers, the screen may not work so well as it works on electrical impulses from the skin :?

Removing the SIM can also fix lots of freezes & glitches.

The SIM should also be periodically replaced with a more up to date model - you can get it set to your same number & use a program to back your old SIM up to a computer so you don't lose anything.

I never had any problems with my old touch screen phone (Samsung Monte). I currently have an iPhone and haven't experienced any problems with it yet... although I have only had it for 3 weeks!

Some of my friends iPhones and iPod touches have problems with an unresponsive screen sometimes, but more often the home button often doesn't work

We've got a lad here who used to work for a phone company; I'll ask next time I see him too.

Just seen your cross-post Sarah; that's very interesting. My phone doesn't seem happy in any extreme of temperature... wonder why we can't have the 'tougher' phones here

We do, they are called Blackberrys  . have you done all of your upgrades?

Yes, did a system upgrade the other day.

It's especially annoying in the morning when I am switching it on and just can't get the PIN in it!

You're right about a Blackberry Sarah; we have those and iPhones at work.... I am keeper of my boss's B'berry and hate it with a vengeance, as you know I'm just not a phone fixated person.

This one was free on an upgrade so if it continues to play up I will take it back but I doubt I'll get anything else free apart from another Wildfire S. This morning I was so frustrated that I have taken it all apart and given it a gentle dusting inside with the compressed air duster - will see if that makes a difference.

I hate the brightness, especially in the sun as if you put it up the battery will only last a couple hours but only occasionally get problems with it not being responsive.

The battery life is the biggest problem with me, will have the WiFi on in the house, brightness on lowest but still only less than a day.

That said mine's always in my hand or with me, I charge it overnight but never turn it off so could it be something to do with rebooting it everyday?

Really want an iPhone but can't afford one atm!

If you have Android, try 2xbattery... It saves battery life (mainly) by managing mobile data. I do find it helps with mine, although I do find I'm obsessed with the status icon and the estimated "0% battery in 67 hours"

I might have worked this out.... when I dusted inside the phone, I took out the SIM and cleaned all the contacts; I noticed that the SIM holder doesn't actually click into place 'positively' like with other phones... it sort of move half a millimetre to engage. This works loose again and might well be the cause of my problems.

The phone seems OK today

But that might just be coincidence.
