soapdragon
I have tried the Boots own Argan oil shampooo and conditioner and was not overly impressed - prefer my usual Faith in Nature Lavender and Geranium stuff ! The curl cream sounds good tho so will pop into Boots at the w/e and see if I can find it, as long as it doesn't leave a wet look stickiness? I find the whole hair/skin care and make up sections totally daunting as I am VERY low maintainance - as anyone who has met me will testify !!!- and have a huge aversion to anything more than lipsalve and havn't worn make up for about 13 years !!! I am the same in clothes shops esp since losing weight...its all too much choice and jeans are soooooooooooooooo comfy !!!!
Chucky Mama
I have tried the Boots own Argan oil shampooo and conditioner and was not overly impressed - prefer my usual Faith in Nature Lavender and Geranium stuff ! The curl cream sounds good tho so will pop into Boots at the w/e and see if I can find it, as long as it doesn't leave a wet look stickiness? I have been using the Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner now for a few days and whilst it leaves a reasonable curl it does not moisturise it nearly as much as Aussie for example and it leaves it quite tangled - I won't buy any more after this lot has finished. I used some Cream of Nature Argan oil conditioner today (this thread has got me doing some market research ) and it is masses better. I got it from my local afro hair & beauty shop. The Boots curl cream is great and does not leave the hair sticky...but, I found that if my hair gets wet in the rain after it has dried on, it does get a bits sticky, shame my local Boots has sold out
Lavenders_Blue
So it's been about a week since I started using Argania Oil on my hair. TBH, I'm not that wowed with it. My hair does feel smoother and shinier, but the curl isn't really any more defined and although it's less frizzy, I wouldn't say it is hugely so. Overall, I think it's okay... but not great. I'm going to try the Boots Curling Creme next, as it seems to be very popular on the British Curlies forum (yes, I was brave enough to go back for a read!) and at least if I don't like that it won't be much money wasted. Reading through this thread, the one thing that strikes me is that different products work for different people, so having asked for advice I think it's actually going to be trial and error that finds me the product I like in the end. That makes sense having looked at the British Curlies website - so many different curl types, hair porosity etc can't all find that one single product works for them. So far, I have been most pleased with my new haircut! Now just got to keep trying to find my 'miracle product'.
Cinnamon
Do try the cream called 'Secret Agent' by Frizz ease too - I use it on my dry fluff every morning & it just turns it to nice even curls again, with no sticky wet look. Been using it for years - a tube lasts ages & it is just brilliant.
Cinnamon
Never thought I would say this, but I have found something even better than the Moroccan oil I have been using. It is L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil. It comes in 2 fourmulations, one for normal & one for coloured hair, & a very bit bottle is about £10,although its £6.50 ish in Boots at the moment. Its made of plant extracts & it just fantastic for my hair - puts it all into soft ringlets with no sign od dryness, frizz or oiliness. I cannot recommend it enough Also Lush have brought out a spray called Sea Spray ,for a beachy surfy look, which is also great. it smells of my favourite thing,Neroli,& is lovely to use,& gives a really good look too. Its only available online or mail order for the moment, but will roll out to shops a little later. Edited July 29, 2012 by Guest
merlina
Once upon a time I was a beauty journalist. I don't have thick curly hair myself (the exact opposite, so I am enormously envious of your locks), but the range we always always recommended was Aveda's Brilliant collection. Not cheap, but a little really does go a long way. It has the huge advantage that it doesn't (unlike most of the cheap stuff) leave plastic residue on your hair which can (especially if you use heat), bind to the hair and snap it. it's awhile since I was writing about this stuff on a daily basis, so there may be better, newer products out there, but I would definitely try these. (you can buy travel sizes or even get samples to try if you get a sales person on a good day!)
The Dogmother
I use Aveda products too Merlina, although not for curly hair. Luckily a friend brings them back from the US for me, where they are half the price.

I cannot recommend it enough I have been quite interested to hear about this new oil after seeing the ads. I shall have to give it a go now. I have tried a new conditioner which has made my hair very soft, but I find it a bit difficult to comb through my wet hair. Its Palmers Coconut conditioner. Smells amazing (if you like coconut) and like I said my hair feels lovely and soft and smooth.
RedReader
Hi, Just catching up with this post & all the recommendations for curly hair. Mine is curly, dry, frizzy (not helped by loads of highlights to hide the grey) & I seem to have spent so much time, money & energy getting it under control. I have recently got a microfibre towel which i use for about 1/2 hour after washing. I then use body shop beautifying oil & leave my hair to finish drying naturally. This seems to be working well & I have had a few compliments on it recently which is most unusual. I have even been able to go 4 days between washes which can only help the dryness/frizziness. With the body shop oil there is also a choice of lovely smells & as usual with an oil a little goes a long way. thank you for all the suggestions about products & the curly hair website, off to check that out now.... bluekarin
I am not sure if anyone has mentioned this already in the thread, but I thought I'd suggest trying coconut oil. I found out about it on Pinterest and seeing as Holland & Barrat had it on offer, I thought I'd give it a whirl. It is lovely stuff. I put it on my hair while dry and cover with a shower cap and leave it on for about half an hour or so then thoroughly shampoo out (two shampoos needed) and condition as usual and my hair is lovely and soft and definitely smoother than it has been. It is quite difficult to get the stuff out of the pot but it melts on your hands and is very easy to smooth through your hair. You can also use it in cooking or on your skin, so if you find its not for you, then its not wasted Hope you find it as good as I have. Lavenders_Blue
That's interesting bluekarin, I might give that a go. After a little while using it, I have actually found that Argania oil does nothing at all for my hair as a styling product. It makes it feel smooth and silky, but does zero to tame frizz, so to use it up I have been working it through dry hair, leaving it overnight as a treatment and then washing out in the morning. I won't bother buying it again (expensive!) but may well give coconut oil a whirl. The styling product that has worked best for me is Umberto Giannini scrunching curl jelly (think that's what it's called, it's in a bright pink tube anyway) as it has decent hold which seems to be necessary for my stubbornly frizzy hair
Charlottechicken
OH has had some success with the Boots range of coconut shampoo, conditioner and hair mask stuff on his tight ringletty dry hair. I love the Avon Moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner, but I have straight hair. Oh, and he's going easy on the hairdryer too
The Dogmother
When I had very long hair I'd use this on the ends, you have to use it very sparingly though or it will make your hair greasy. Great fro travelling as it can also be used as a body cream. Smells divine
Cinnamon
My hair is curly & can frizz but its not very thick.....I have just discovered Lush's BIG shampoo, which is brilliant for my hair. It gives it real body & oomph, when I need it. It's an odd texture & has heaps of sea salt in it which dissolves into your hair. I don't use it every wash, just when I want my hair to look more wild & surfy than.usual. I am still totally hooked on the extraordinary oil too, which has helped the condition of my hair a lot,& makes it much easier to manage. I think its a product I will use for life now. Lavenders_Blue
My hair is super thick, so I think I might just avoid the BIG shampoo in that case! Just had a look at the ingredients in my conditioner - it has coconut oil in it already, and I always comb a big dollop through my hair and leave it in after washing. Probably explains why the hairdresser said my hair looked healthy and shiney when I saw him last week
Jennifer Jane
My hair is frizz and curl-prone and I wanted to recommend Australian Organics conditioner for dry/treated hair. I love it . It has made my hair look much smoother and was on offer at Holland & Barrett recently. A bottle has lasted me two months so far with plenty left, so good value for money too. Also a lot of you recommend Frizz Ease. I have tried it in the past and found that it didn't work particularly well on my hair but yesterday my hairdresser introduced me to a Frizz Ease 3 day straightening spray (I think) - she has similar hair to me and swears by it. It's supposed to last 3 days ( of course) but as it's been less than a day so far I can't really say that it does. Time will tell.
