The Dogmother
I was in our local pets store the other week and said hello to a sweet puppy being carried around. The owner gave it to me to hold while she sorted out a dog tag... I could have been anyone.
LolaLayla
Eek. YS wants to take our puppy to the shops when she is able to walk out. I am worried that if he leaves her outside she will be taken Maybe I am just paranoid
The Dogmother
No, you're quite right, I wouldn't leave any dog outside a shop or anywhere for that matter. I can't begin to tell you how many dogs are stolen each week; I subscribe to the local rural and dog alerts form the police and there are so many, even stolen from locked kennels. I don't want to worry you but please make sure that she has a tag saying that she's micro-chipped, and council tags too if your local has a register. Mine are very sought after dogs by certain elements of society and not only are they chipped, tagged and neutered but there are also stickers on the car to that fact. A friend's lurcher was stolen not long ago while they were out walking, luckily the lurcher and hunting community made the dog too hot to handle and he's now back at home. Lavenders_Blue
Agreed - definitely don't leave a dog tied up outside a shop. Dogs are stolen for so many reasons - working, breeding, resale or even just to extract reward/ranson money from you. We don't have a council register here, but Tango is both microchipped and spayed and wears one of these 'chipped and neutered' tags on her collar which hopefully will put off some potential thieves (even if she is just a humble mutt )
The Dogmother
I know you will, but be very careful of your gorgeous baby.
LolaLayla
Thank you for that information. I am sure there is no register here but I will certainly get a tag to hopefully deter anyone who may think about taking her. I will need to make sure YS knows to be careful. I have not heard of any dogs being taken here but that doesn't mean it cannot happen
Seagazer
I definitely agree about never leaving a dog tied up outside a shop - it is annoying sometimes if I've forgotten something and going for a walk with her but I'd never forgive myself if Cookie was stolen
bluekarin
From the Dogs trust leaflet I got when we were considering rehoming a dog it said it was against the law to tie a dog up outside a shop. http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/_resources/resources/factsheets09/factsheetanimalwelfarelaw09.pdf I know I wouldn't risk Neela outside a shop when she is big enough to be out and about. bluekarin
More photos as requested Cooks http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/rr65/bluekarin/?action=view¤t=041.jpg'>http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/rr65/bluekarin/?action=view¤t=041.jpg http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/rr65/bluekarin/?action=view¤t=043.jpg http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/rr65/bluekarin/?action=view¤t=041.jpg She is currently being a pain as she wants to eat the cats food, and the dead bird that was in the garden, and our feet etc etc I don't want to be too cross with her though as she is just about to go to the vets for her 2nd vacc and her microchip - not looking forward to it one bit
Seagazer
When Cookie used to try and nip us we used to say a firm no and walk away. They usually get the idea that they shouldn't be doing it. Likewise some people like to let the puppy 'mouth' their hands when they're teething, also not a good idea as they could carry on into adulthood and it will hurt a lot more the I hope Neela gets on ok with her next jab and microchip. Lovely photos of Neela.
LolaLayla
Hope all goes as well as it can with the microchip I think it is one of those necessary evils I took a treat from home with us and Lara took it even though she didn't want the vets one. I think it helped a bit. She is very sweet....however like toddlers they can look so angelic but then trash the place
bluekarin
Well.......I'm a bit cross as the vet (not the same one as last time) wouldn't do her 2nd vacc as she is under 10 weeks - by 2 days So I have to take her back on Thursday. She could have had her microchip done today but I said I'd rather leave it till she has her jab and get it all done in one visit. I have bought a really prickly chew bone toy from £land which she is quite liking. I will leave it in the fridge overnight and see if she likes it cold. Will save on carrots

Cooks
How's she getting on?
bluekarin
She had her '1st' jab and microchip last Thursday. She whimpered a bit, but was soon distracted by some tasty treats so was quite happy there *phew*. I was dreading it, but she was fine so I hope Lily will be the same for you Cooks. We took her to a garden wedding reception on Saturday - her first big gathering. She did quite well. Was desperate to play with the other dogs there - a Burmese Mountain Collie X, a Lab, a small Cairn terrier type plus a little black pug. She wanted to play with the tail of the BMC and the terrier lived up to its name but the pug was very sweet and they played sniff your tail freak out etc etc She did get a bit hyper there with all the people, but was very friendly with the grown ups and a bit jumpy with the little kids. I kept her on her lead just in case. Towards the end of the party she was being cuddled by everyone with threats of she'll fit in my pocket She was also very good in her crate in the car. A bit of whimpering at the start but soon settled down on the way there and back home she was as quite as a mouse We are still having wee problems, and she has had a couple of no 2 accidents as well (in the house not her bed area). I and trying to make sure her waterproof sleeping mat is well washed so it doesn't smell of wee. She no longer has food or drinks after 8.30pm and I will get that back to 8pm asap to see if that helps. Apart from that and her loopy running around before she needs to sleep, and her biting, she is so lovely. I can't believe how much she has grown as well. A toy monkey we bought her which she kept tripping over now barely drags along the floor when she is carrying it. Looking forward to a puppy party next Monday, 2nd vacc next Wed and walkies a week later My ED is collecting her 1st 3 GCSE results then, so we will tie the two together
Cooks
Oh that sounds fantastic. I am glad she's getting on ok, accidents are to be expected but good idea about cutting out food late at night. lily seems to have got a lot darker and bigger since Friday when we got her
bluekarin
Well, we brought forward her walkies. I took her to the park yesterday which was a good ten minutes walk away, and slow wander around that (with her tugging the whole time on her lead and harness) and then home - about an hour in all. She was a bit tired when she got in Took her out for half an hour today just around the block and she was whimpering a bit on the walk so though she was tired. But she is still going now - an hour later! She does look tired though so should be asleep any time now.
Cooks
Nawwww I can't wait to walk Lily, it's killing me waiting Funny when they zonk asleep they look like butter wouldn't melt
LolaLayla
Lara is still not a keen walker. Especially if it is/has been raining. When I mention walk she tries to slink back to her crate. At first she whined a bit going round the block but now she is apt to chew on the lead for some of the time I have to take lots of treats with me There is a gradual improvement though
The Dogmother
Ruby used to play up like that; I would carry her to the park and make her walk back when she was a puppy, she soon got the hang of it.
