Redwing
You should be able to candle and see something on Wednesday
LolaCola
Ohh! Great, what would I be looking for?
Purplemaniacs
We waited until day 10 on Redwings recommendation as we were new and inexperienced By then we could see veins around the edge of the egg and and a dark blob that you could see moving in some of the eggs. In one we had a ring around the egg which meant that it had started to develop and then died for some reason. If you search on the internet you can find out what they should look like. Purplemaniacs
The pictures on this site are quite good http://keeping-chickens.me.uk/chickens/how-to-hatch-eggs/candling-eggs Chrissie
LolaCola
Thanks Purple - but it doesn't even look like I'm going to get to that point! Two silkie eggs are now gone. I think I'm going to s"Ooops, word censored!" the lot and start again devesteated!
mimi5
Oh no! What happened to the eggs?? So Sorry your having all these problems!!! Let us know what you decide to do.
LolaCola
Same thing, I can only guess its because of the 1st lot of bad ones, the two that smelt and weeped were siting where the 1st ones were, it can't be a coincidence ? Such a shame
Purplemaniacs
Oh no what a shame. I think I would get rid of them all. Thoroughly clean the incy and then get some more eggs from a reputable supplier. I am sorry for you, it must be such a disappointment. I am sure if you get some more silkies you will have much more success. LolaCola
Hi all, I left the remaining eggs in the running incy, whilst was waiting for disenfectant to come through post. I also left one egg that was weeping ever so slightly. So out of curiosity, just candled them, I have 3 heart beats! Weeping iegg is clear. Discarded that one, and have left 3 in. I'm going to leave them in, I know there is a very small chance, as they still might get the bacteria, but I'm going to give it ago. Should I take eggs out and disenfect when it arrives? mimi5
Oh Horray for the silkie eggs!!! Well done you for candelling too!!! Not sure about the disenfectant question sorry!! Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable will answer that one for you!!!! So when I mentioned countdown before, I ment to the hatch, d-day!!! So the 1st day is counted as day 0, then you count up to 21, which is d-day!! Ocassionally bantam eggs hatch a day or 2 early (like Tumble the silkie!!) and eggs which have been cooled can take a day or 2 longer!!!! Let's hope for 3 little cute fluffies!!!! LolaCola
Oh, Mimi, yes if every thing goes right for a change, then 9th aug! I will be hovering around them a few days before then, like an expectant mummy I must say, it's quite amazing, seeing a little heart beat in what we normally eat for breakfast
