Cinnamon
The Aldi pots & pans are really good - my daughters look like new still after a years use (& yes,she did use them!) Nice bright colours too,so they can identify their own things easily. LINKY Edited August 13, 2012 by Guest
Chucky Mama
We are not allowed to think of this until Thursday after results as ES has a conditional offer Well done Jonathan
Geoid
Tongs! I was the only person in my flat (6 of us) to bring tongs.

chickencam
Well done him , we are also nervously waiting on results this Thursday. I had a nightmare about DS's GCSE results last night too, the next couple of weeks could be interesting.
Ain't Nobody Here
I made up a list for ES 2 years ago (using that thread mainly!). I keep meaning to ask him to help me update it for YS who goes in September. I'll email you a copy when he's done so, Alli! Thankfully YS had an unconditional but considering the amount of work he did, he did pretty well. Fingers crossed for those still waiting . sparkysmum
Thanks for the Aldi recommendation - got pans and and a pizza tray and other stuff. Sainsbury Basic dinner set for £7.50. Still have to do bedding, towels and stationary. Oh and we got tongs too!!! Thanks for that ANH, would be delighted to receive your list. Vikki56
I can't recommend a basic (plasters, germaline, strepsils, thermometer, painkillers & anthisan) strongly enough. My mum & dad wisely packed one & if I had a pound for every studenty friend who turned up at our dorm with a stingy paper-cut. Also the thermometer made sure I went to the Dr's with my freshers flu (and was subsequently rescued by my rents, although as I recall my mum wanted to 'rescue' the other ill residents of our halls as well! sparkysmum
Hi vikki56, what a good idea - hadn't thought of first aid
Vikki56
No worries, I actually thought of a few more bits after I logged off, Lemsips, soluble vit c/berocca/multi vits & rehydration salts. I seem to remember mum packed me off with a massive tube of multivitamins. Probably a good job she did I seem to have survived my first year on chicken flavored super noodles (with cheese obviously) and erm toast Vikki x
Cinnamon
My girl used her stick blender a LOT - it was a cheap-o Tesco value one, about £6 I think. The only new thing we have bought for her second year, apart from some Ikea furniture,is a Sandwich Toaster.
sparkysmum
Brilliant, now got a stick blender on my somewhat eye watering list. They don't warn you about needing a second mortgage do they
Ain't Nobody Here
Oh yes, forgot we had one of those too . There will be more if your son takes up cooking rather than tin-opening . ES is slowly building up a supply of herbs and spices and cookware! Depending on where his halls washing machine is (my ES's one was in a completely different building ), he might need something to lug dirty/clean washing about in and possibly also a clothes horse of some type. I gave ES my old one and bought myself a new one .
Cinnamon
Yeah, one of those huge laundry bags - we got our on ebay. She used it as a laundry hamper too,so it was really useful.
sparkysmum
Going to Perth with Jonathan tomorrow. Doing bedding, thought I'd try Dunelm Mill . Wonder if they do laundry bags too?
scubababe
What about using some old pillow cases to use as laundry bages? 1 for whites, 1 for darks or maybe an old duvet cover? Just a thought
Lewis
I use the big blue IKEA bags as a washing bag, and to take clean clothes back to Uni in! 40p so a bargain and works well One thing I'd say is get a double duvet not single, even if its a single bed, 'cos it can get freezing in student houses once out of halls! Also a Wall Planner and Sharpies is a must to write down term dates, birthdays, Union events ...oh and assignments + exams
Cooks
I am looking at this and trembling, I have two more years for DS to think about this but OMG Brilliant use of Ikea bags IMO
Ain't Nobody Here
My little boy must be growing up - he said he would like some plants for his room . He's chosen a nice big yucca plant and a cheese plant (and I bought a spider plant cos every student flat needs a spider plant ).
chickencam
Must remember a plant for ED, we inherited my BIL's plant when he left uni because we lived the closest we kept it for about another 10 years, no idea what it was. ED was showing YD pictures of the accommodation which she will have in Bristol, and YD said 'is that all you get, a bed and a sink?' I dread to think what she will expect in 5 years time. sparkysmum
Nearly there I think Went to Dunelm mill in Perth & got the lot = bedding, towels & oven gloves Maybe a bit of hope over reality here - not sure if you need oven gloves to pour endless bowls of cereal. Re plants, Jonathan's Grandma asked him what he would like for going to Uni & he suggested a plant too. Spider plant seems perfect Btw, we all seem to be in a minority re kitting out our kids. Was discussing this with a friend the other day who thought I was mad. She sent her son off with the oldest gear she had & never bought a thing. Ain't Nobody Here
Must admit, I bought some new things and kept them, giving my old stuff to ES . Dunelm Mill is brilliant . Got sheets/duvet cover etc for ES but forgot to get a duvet . Had to rush to Sainsburys to get one after he moved into his new flat - luckily, it's only a 3 min drive away .
