Luvachicken
A few weeks before we went on holiday I thought Penny, my Welsummer chick, looked a bit peeky, so I put some tonic in the water and she did perk up. I left my mum instructions for the tonic and how to cuddle the chicks etc and we went on holiday. On the Thursday of last week she texted to say that Penny had died and she was really upset about it. She had cuddled them the previous night and said that Penny was ok but wanted to get back to their cat box where they sleep. In the morning she was dead There wasn't really anything obvious wrong with her, I just wish I'd taken her to the vets in the first place and not listened to others telling me I was too sensitive at noticing the slightest difference in behaviour. She was such a pretty little thing too and had the sweetest little whistle when she sat on my lap. Sleep well Penny xxx

Luvachicken
Really sad. Try not to beat yourself up about it, sometimes things just happen at the worst times. Lots of hugs xx The trouble is, is that I was weighing them every week and stopped because they were all doing so well. Perhaps if I'd carried on I would have noticed more that something was wrong before it was too late. I do miss her. Especially at bedtime when I give the other 3 their cuddles and she is not there. I didn't really think I would ever get that attached to pets that live outside, but chickens and chicks definitely seem to have a different effect. wannabe smallholder
I understand the attachment, I was distraught when my guinea pig died, I felt such a fool but couldn't help it. Thinking of you xxxxx
