I am a bad, bad mother

Recommended Posts

My son phoned me this morning and told me he was injured and that his unit was bringing him home. After dealing with the call it took me an embarrassingly short amount of time to think 'oooh, soldiers' and rush to change out of my ratty old t-shirt into something more presentable. That is bad.

In my defense I've kind of got used to my family being brought home injured. It seems to happen a lot.

I think your reaction is a perfectly natural one; what else could you do? The whole situation, at that point, was completely out of your hands. The only thing you COULD do was make sure that you were best prepared in your own mind and that could have been to have a quick clean up, cook something (very comforting if somewhat irellevant unless freezable!!!) or 'smarten up' ! Whatever, the reaction is likely to be 'Ohhhh,Muuum  '!!!

My two boys are only 8 and 4 but I have found that Motherhood = guilt; you never feel that you have done 'the right thing' or 'good enough' but, in reality I think you do because you are their mum and love them more than anything!!!

Thinking of you both; hugs.
