The Dogmother
I sometimes wear my PJs out under regular clothing first thing in the morning.
lillybettybabs
yes i do that, i sling my waterproof trousers and coat over the top then walk the dogs. I need to find one of those peaked knitted hats that cover your ears, they were cold and ached this morning.
The Dogmother
I have a waterproof one with fur lining and earflaps, got it really cheaply from T K Maxx. Can't remember the brand but it's a good one.
Lavenders_Blue
I need to find one of those peaked knitted hats that cover your ears, they were cold and ached this morning. I had chilly ears this morning too, brrrrrrrrr! I have too much hair to be wearing a hat this time of year though, so maybe I need to get some ear muffs! Charlottechicken
My mum swears by a bit of cotton wool in her ears in windy winter weather, stops ear and jaw ache.
UKMARCH
I got some of the fleece pjs for ED she loves them, good idea for dog walking although I think I'd look a bit like Michelin man with them and others on top. I bought some new boots half price for dog walking from Cotton Traders look bit like muck boots with furry lining not sure if they're going to hurt my feet but at least I won't slip up its so muddy at the moment and my Aussie Soles Snuggs make my legs slip apart and I nearly got groin strain gave everyone a good laugh though! craftyhunnypie
Aha ! you've reminded me that I've got some earmuffs I picked up in one of Claire's Accessories Sales - earlier this year. Perfect for doing the chickens in. I'm a hat lover though too. I got some fleece pj's for my birthday yesterday. They are very warm, cozy & comfy. Trouble is , you don't want to ever take them off. So snuggly! I also got a lovely jumper, a tunic, leggings & some nice boots. Oh & a hat & scarf. Plus other stuff. That's Winter sorted! I've also got my super duper bargain snow boots from Field & Trek last year - unworn. I think they were 3.99!!! Did anyone else get them? Not sure how long they will stay white though round here. Oh & I have my Winter trax too & a sledge. I do love Winter clothing - I just don't like seeing a line of dark drab clothing though. It has to have colour & be jolly. The Dogmother
UKMARCH, if those are the Cotton Traders boots I am thinking about then do keep an eye on them; both me and a friend had various pairs and they always split in the same place. CT replaced them the first time but weren't so accommodating when the subsequent pairs all split in the same place I swear by neoprene muck boots in the winter with YakTrax when it snows. i need to replace my winter dog walking coat as it's in holes in places but I am looking for something black, grey or plain and all the ladies' ones are bright colours or have pink on them I think I might have to go for a small mens' one. Chortle Chook
So here we all are, wrapped up in thermals, and wellys, looking every bit Not glamorous!! Warm , yes, but what the hell happened!! I've turned 50 this year, and look like a bag lady!! Never used to . . .I think all the chic, ladies would despair of us all! Discussing warm socks, indeed!!! When did any of us wear heels, I wonder Or Nylons?? Make up?? Lingerie?????? (that uncomfortable stuff you put on briefly, before you get married, if my memory serves me right) For lingerie - if you ever use those padded bras that one could do the morse code on, then they can be quite warm I work from home but had to go in to the office last week (first time in 2 years) and after much digging in my wardrobe managed to extract a light wool dress, a pair of tights and some shoes with heels. By the end of the day I limped to the train with swollen feet and goosepimples on my neck and chest the size of beeds. I did not look glamorous. patsylabrador
Everyone seems to be living in a different climate to me. It still just feels a bit cool. I live on the edge of London, not central so it can't be that. Perhaps it's my age, any cloths designed to be warming make me feel tetchy, I need to feel a slight chill on my skin. Weird. The Dogmother
We're all different PL My folks live near you and always comment on the cold when they visit up here, and I always find their house too warm, but then they're oldsters and I'm menopausal! Chortle Chook
Apparently a) people nearly always feel warmer in their own home than in someone else's -I'm always really cold in my mother's house even though as an old lady of 91 you would have thought it would be boiling in there b) people who grow up in warm countries never get used to colder climates. I grew up in Iran and get so very cold here. At school I and a girl from the West Inides used to spend all our time sitting on the radiators and now that I am in my 50s when I take the dogs to the park I am all wrapped up and the only other person who seems to be in mid-winter garb is a lady from South Africa

Daphne
For lingerie - if you ever use those padded bras that one could do the morse code on, then they can be quite warm What on earth are these Am I missing out on something I found myself wondering earlier today if it would be beyond the pale to wear salopettes indoors when it gets really cold as a way of saving on the heating bill when I'm working from home - what do you think? Lavenders_Blue
I spotted the thermals on the Aldi website, DM. I had a look as a friend had told me that they have riding gear in at the moment. There wasn't any riding gear that I wanted (although the jodhpurs are v. bargainous for anyone who is looking for a pair) but notice that on Sunday they will be getting in outdoor clothing inc. thermals. I will definitely be getting a couple of pairs, I was really cold walking the dog this morning - and it's only October!

I was wondering about the bra too, Daphne! I say, wear what you want in the comfort of your own home I'm wearing over knee mohair socks folded over back down to my ankles at the moment (they are still up to my knees!), and also wear knee length socks with ankle socks over the top, in the house. I'm not yet ready to move the heating up a notch, and it is not on until the evenings yet either . I quite fancy some salopettes
The Dogmother
I see the honeymoon period has come to an end then CC I pile layers on around the house too, don't much care what I look like but have startled the paperboy on a couple of occasions. Thanks Dogmother I'll look out for that although I don't know yet if I'll be able to wear them much as I suffer with bunions so need something really wide but they felt ok in the shop but out walking that's another matter. I have walking boots but they aren't that comfy! I was going to try muck boots my friend has some but hers don't look that wide I like my Snuggs as they mould to your feet but the grip is terrible and I've ended slipping a lot. I've got Craghoppers coats for dog walking usually get navy as I don't like bright ones either and last year I got a longer length one in the sale in dark purple it's not really warm but can have a fleece under when its really cold and the top inner is quilted but the bottom is thinner and goes to your knees so keeps you drier and very handy when I get jumped up or sprayed with slobber! Lavenders_Blue
I have some Muck Boot wellies, but don't like them much. They give me terrible blisters on my heels and they also have zero grip, so as soon as I hit a patch of mud my legs are whirling round like Scooby Doo! In fact I did fall over in the mud last weekend much to hubby's amusement (no sympathy there then). However, I think I am in the minority, as I have never heard anyone else complain about Muck Boots being uncomfy. I do have funny feet, so that's most likely the problem. On the plus side they are good for winter as they keep your feet toasty warm. During the recent wet weather, I've been wearing my old school Duke of Edinburgh walking gaiters over my walking boots (I always said if you kept something for long enough it would come in handy some day) and some knee high woolly socks under my jeans to keep my legs warm. I find this comfier than wellies for walking.
The Dogmother
UKMARCH, there are some muck boots with very little tread (goodness knows why) and some with loads of tread; the men's sizes seem to be better tread-wise, depending on your foot size you might be able to get those. I am oh so refreshingly different to anyone else he has met in his life (specially the music biz, you can imagine!), and he loves it! They have some great men's stuff in Tesco, the ladies clothing leaves a bit to be desired though, far too fashionable for my liking
Daphne
Salopettes are those oversize padded trousers with braces that you wear on the ski slopes. They are like wearing a duvet I forgot that I get daily visitors - either the postie or a neighbour, I'm not sure that it will do to add to my reputation as madwoman
