zakjon-98
Wood chips are good and last long. You can also get them for free from tree surgeons
Ain't Nobody Here
Can you get Easibed? Very similar to Hemcore. Also, try sprinkling down Bio-dry or Stalosan F if you don't already. Helps to dry things up a little bit .
Cheeky Chooky
Hardwood wood chips and clear tarpaulins
mimi5
Sorry to crash your thread, but can I ask "cheeky chooky" did you put anything down before you put down your wood chip? As I may have to resort to placing my cube&run in one spot for the rest of the winter, as my lawn is really boggy and the grass is fairing badly!! Sorry again and thanks!! Cheeky Chooky
My WIRs are directly on the ground. I use Stalosan regularly but that's it. Completely covering the WIR with clear tarpaulins is the only way to keep the girls dry
Mrs_B
I had such an issue with mud, that I asked my local poultry farm what they would recommend, and the lovely lady there (Newland Poultry) suggested putting weed fabric down, with turf protector on top (so the chickens don't shred the weed fabric) and then woodchip on top. They have a page online which explains everything - http://www.newlandgrange.com/CHICKEN-RUN-MUD-MANAGEMENT(1720020).htm I have done this in the run and most of the FR area - leaving a big area for dust bathing. I let the rain rinse everything through, if there's no rain then the hose will do Hope this helps! x
