chickencam
We have had 2 local quotes, but after speaking to someone that we know who is in the trade as a parts manufacturer recommended Anglian as a national company saying that they were the Rolls Royce of windows. We had the guy out this morning and have since read loads of extremely negatives reviews on the internet. We are now very confused. Thought it made sense to have 2 local and one national quote. CatieB
We didn't go ahead and use them as we asked them for a quote and had a nightmare with their service. First guy came, after many phone calls and then we never got the quote. They then kept ringing asking to book another appointment. We eventually gave in, they rearranged three times and then the guy didn't turn up and we had waited in specially. You can imagine our next conversation with them we made it very plain not to call us again......We carried on getting calls I'm very surprised from the stories I've heard since that they were recommended to you. chickencam
Thanks for that Our guy did turn up and it sounds like we got off lightly, because we said from the outset that we only had an hour and a half before we had to go out. Some of the reviews that we found were terrible especially regarding high pressure sales and poor customer service along with constant phone calls for further home improvements after installation. mollyripkim
They did our conservatory about 8 years ago and must say we were very impressed throughout. We had other quotes but because we live in a bungalow they did the best design in cutting into the roof and making new gables.
soapdragon
We recently had to replace windows at the front of our house as both boy's windows leaked in the rain and we were running out of tea towels! Had three quotes and Anglian were a nightmare! They changed the time of the quote twice and then were over an hour late! Chap didn't know what he was supposed to be quoting for when he finally turned up and didn't even apologise for being late - we had to tell him what to quote for and then he quoted for front door that we had not asked for! Quote was not broken down into 'so much' per window which seemed odd and the total was over double what the other two quotes were even taking into account the fact that Anglian had a half price sale on (which was the only reason we had asked for the quote from them!) we then came under huge pressure to make a descision very quicky. I very quickly told them where to put their quote! We gave our business to a lovely little local company who have been around for over 20 years and they did a great job. Would NOT TOUCH Anglian every again! Rant over - hope that helps!
freddie
The local bloke down the road has his reputation to upkeep.; he'll come back if there's a problem. And he'll be glad of the trade. Ask around locally, the same firm will come up as good! Have fun!!

chickencam
That is pretty much the conclusion that we have come to. Thanks everyone. We will probably go with the small family firm that recently did next door's windows, he is also a friend of his, therefore he has his reputation to keep up. Anglian actually came out the cheapest with their fancy offers and Gold finance, but it all made us a bit uncomfortable. Looks like we will have to stop answering the phone for the next few years though
Janepie33
Yes. Bad experience with Anglican here too. We didn't go with them in the end, but received calls from them for YEARS afterwards, even when I repeatedly asked them to remove us from their list! Good luck. Lydia
Anglian caused our roof to leak (and admitted it was their fault) but would not come back and make good the damage. The chap in the local office once answered the phone and laughed at me. After countless phone calls, emails and letters and many months of a leaky roof we filed a claim against them via the Small Claims Court. They didn't have a leg to stand on and settled immediately. This was several years ago but they still call us and see if they can quote for more work! Funnily enough my reply is never terribly polite. Don't touch them with a barge pole. Good luck finding someone more reputable.
chickencam
Thank you everyone, for confirming our suspicions. We now have to decide whether to get the render on the upstairs of the house and the barge boards painted before we get the windows done or after. OH thinks that it will be easier to patch up any damage around the windows with paint afterwards than clean of fine paint spots caused by rollers after the windows have been fitted. I think 6 of one and half a dozen of the other
chuckmum6
We had HORRENDOUS experience with them, they were totally incompetent and took MONTHS to sort out problems, we refused to pay them the full amount and told them to take us to court - they back down. Please look elsewhere there must be somewhere better!

Ours went in beautifully and were then sealed (the rooms with replacement windows are now much warmer and we are saving like mad to get the back of the house done!) We have stone render but would not have needed to do any decorating at all afterwards!
merlina
I think this thread is evidence that reputation (for good or ill) stays with us long after it may have ceased to be deserved! Anglian Windows *used* to be the best. Perhaps 20 years ago. I had friends who worked in the industry who were all in awe of the quality of Anglian's service, product etc. I knew people who had their windows and were delighted. Not sure what's happened to the company since, but that standard is clearly long gone, judging by the contact people i know have had with it - which echoes the experiences here - and the online reviews

Olly
Just a word of advice - not to do with Anglian, but with double glazing generally. I had my rusty, draughty original metal Crittall windows replaced a couple of years ago with sealed double-glazed units, and I was thrilled with the difference - no more condensation in the mornings, and no draughts. I did not appreciate the importance of having trickle vents - sealing the windows up certainly stopped the draughts, but all that condensation then landed on the walls and caused significant mould problems. I wish I'd realised this, or that the window fitter had warned me; I've had to install extra ventilation to sort the problem out. Do get windows with vents, if you want to avoid this. It's one particular room which has two outside walls and gets very cold, where it's been a problem, so if you're in a mid-terrace or have cavity walls it might not be so bad. soapdragon
Oh Olly, I hadn't thought of that! I do open the three bedroom windows a little each morning just to get a bit of air through and we are just about to invest in another dehumidifier for the landing as we are concerned about condensation anyway
chickencam
we don't want to over seal our home because of the woodburner because that pulls air out of the room and up the chimney and it needs a certain air flow to burn effectively. The rules seem to be building regs wise if you have exisating vents then they have to replace them but if you don't the windows don't have to have vents. we do tend to have our windows open a lot.
