Pippa pekin

Recommended Posts

We cleaned the Go run today and what did Pippa want to do? Scratch? No. Eat? No. Walk around the garden? No. She flew on top of the run and watched us clean their messy woodchip. And what a lovely lot of bantams they are too. I had to post a couple of pictures of posing Pippa, I think she's pretty pretty!

Oh Chestnutmare, Pippa is beautiful!!! Such a lovely rounded shape, is she sweet natured or....a bit of a madam!?? I love the mottled colour and had hoped to get one in my hatching eggs. I did get a black chick with yellow patches, but she has developed in to a lovely black hen, with a lovely rainbow hue to her feathers. Martha is her name, but not a classic pekin shape  wondering if there's something else in the mix?....hatching eggs, luck of the draw!

Thanks all. I do think the pekins are so funny to watch walking around the garden. :)

Mini, All of the pekins (sisters I believe) are madams but in different amounts of madamness. They don't take kindly to you invading their home but when free ranging they are fine and like to be hand fed and stroked. I assume they are just territorial over their !gored! . Her pekin sisters are Thelma and Louise (frizzles):-

There are no guarantees with hatching eggs are there. Did you but from eBay? Martha sounds lovely. Is she a madam too?

Thanks everyone!! She is beautiful and I wouldn't part with her, but it is a lesson in hatching eggs from ebay!!!!!!!! The sellers photos were all lovely pekins!!!! I bought 6 pekin eggs and only 3 hatch of which 2 were girls and a georgous buff boy, he was truely pekin shape!!!! Martha was always leggy and Florence who is a birchen is also goergous but not toally pekin looking either!!!! GRR and I had to re-home the boy :( Marty Mcfly.....oh he was a sweetie!! My girls (my own eggs) do all look pekin....and so they should!!! But funily enough it is Martha and Florence who are the sweetest in nature! Be interesting to see what their eggs are like when they come into lay??!! :?

I've been lucky with eBay. Infact my pekins came from eBay (sounds a bit mad doesn't it). Check feedback or ask for a recommendation perhaps. My silkies came from eBay (two different batches), my welsummers, barbu d'uccles and my cream legbars were bought from an online friend. I collected my Marans eggs. I'd collect if I could - muuuuch better hatch rates.

Thanks Chestnutmare. I did try and do it right!!! I looked for sellers near me and the one I choose was 30 mins drive from me and agreed I could collect the eggs, which I did. But I guess I didn't do too badly as I only paid £5 for the 6 eggs and have my lovely Martha and Florence!!!

Won't be hatching again for a long while as I think we're full now........well unless I can get my hands on some bantam araucanas next year!!:lol: Also the boys are a real worry!!!! I got 4 boys and 3 girls!!!! I was lucky and re-homed all the boys, but it was difficult!!!
