Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

So after all the rain we have had my hubby said it was ok to get a 'plastic' hen house as ours is damp (no mater what I do) and the door keeps swelling up and as my girls insit on laying every but the nesting box I have to take a screw driver to prise it ope to get the eggs, im sure they do it on pupose and a quietly laughing whilst I curse under my breath !

 

i have spent a little over a weel looking on Ebay at the other cheaper models and the ones I liked didnt seem big enough or didnt have any space under them, I had been umming and ahhhing over the cube and decided that as it could take more hens it would be the better option but some reason I hadnt the courage to buy it, until today when Hubby peeved me off (announcing he was going out meaning all my plans had to altered aparently he told me weeks ago) anyway seemed so easy to press the buy button just a little hesitation entering in the payment details .... but its done now ........... Now do I let on there were cheaper options or not ............ So excited (the only thing I iwll need to do is find a way to use the electric door opening device we depend on it in the summer as they are self suffcient on Sunday mornings lets hope Omlet make something by then)

The cheaper options would not have been cheaper in the long run so no need to worry your youself

Thats made me feel less guilty mind you it may need a few more girls dont want mine getting lost in all that extra space espcially as very soon my baby boy is going to mums

 

Still thinking I need some pekins, would make a lovely christmas present dont you think

Chicken keeping seems to be fraught with accidents! I recently acquired 3 bantams 'by accident' and now seem to have 'accidentally' got both an eglu go and a classic in the garden . OH thinks the eglu go is for the chickens we are going to get at school (which IS why it was bought) but it could be SO tricky to transport!

Pink (oh my how exciting I get to use the pink cub smilie) but choosing the colour was most probably the most difficult descion I have ever had to make !

 

The girls better like it, they are ALL on punishment row at the moment just found out they have attacked my gerniams that I had put in a place that I thought may prevent the frost getting them but no all 4 and Jude has had a good go at them and scattered soil all over the patio !

 

If its not my cats and children causing mayhem in the house its the girls and Jude creating all sorts of havoc in the garden .......... wonder if I could fit in the cube and live in it to get away from my house and garden of nutters

Oh you lucky thing!! I have been through several wooden houses over my 4 years of keeping chickens to finally arrive at my eglu classic and have downsized to 3 girls. I absolutely love it but so wish I had got the cube in the first place!! The money I have spent on wooden houses!!

I am now aquiring a collection of wooden houses !

 

2 Guinea pig house (oh wait 3 my mum has one buts thats diassembled and stored safely it was my roo and piglets holiday home) I no longer have guinea pigs I didnt replace them .... maybe one day

 

and now 2 wooden chicken houses wondering if I ought to dissassemble one to store, leave the other out but shut up as its always handy to have something ready as a temp sick bay ??

 

A small wooden guinea pig shelter that the girls use as a random nesting box ..... oh just remembered my neighbour also has my first guinea pig run, she used it as a sick bay for chicken after it was attacked by a dog

 

If I get anything else my garden will start to resemble a shanty town or steptoe and sons ....

What a very happy accident to have I am sure you won't regret it, everything is just so much easier and of course there is more room for when morehens strike.

Oh you will totally not regret getting your cube!!!!! Mine is green!! Thought hubby might divorce me if I pushed my luck and went for a girlie colour!!!I to started with a wooden house, total waste of money and hubby & I dismantled it last weekend and took it to the dump!!!! It had warped in the rain, had bad redmite and then went mouldy after the babies went to join the grown up pekins!!!It was only just over a year old, but you live and learn!!

 

The cube is SO easy to clean and until last weekend I had still been trundling mine around the lawn!!!! To muddy/boggy for that now and so it is on a site for the rest of the winter and the run is now full of wood chip!!! My 1 year cube anniversary coming up end of jan.

 

Also I was able to hatch and keep my 3 baby girls!!! So gone from 3 girls to 5 and a gorgeous cockerel! Shhh don't tell but collected two little Molly and Monty babies from an acquaintance who had hatch 6 of my eggs and got 1boy,5 girls!!! She has to move now so offered me the chickens! Could only dare take 2 girls who are in my ark for the winter now as intros will be easier in the spring!!! So Polly and Tilly to add to the gang!! Hubby says the cube will be full with these 2 right??!!!..........probably

Oh yes, it is expensive. The reactions I got when relatives asked how much I paid for a cube, run and extension. But there's nothing else like it is there?

Its being delivered on the 11th Dec will post some pics when its up and running ... cant wait no more fighting the doors to get my egglings, no more bending awkwardly to scoop their poop
