Day clock thingy, question.

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure what they're called, but they are some sort of alarm clock with a daylight bulb, which I guess gets brighter as the alarm goes off.

I saw 2 sorts, one was more expensive than the other, and I did see you could choose what kind of natural noise wakes you up.

What I want to know is, if anyone has one of these clocks and if they are any good ?

Are they better than being woken up by a clock radio ?

Does the clock reach it maximum brightness at the time you want to wake up ?

Do you wake up brighter because you have woken up more naturally ?

I have a Lumie alarm clock and I know a few others on here have a Lumie too.

I LOVE my Lumie, it's far more gentle than waking up to a horrid noise, that said, hubby still sets his radio alarm (20 minutes before he wants to get up  ) but it's on a very low volume and on Classic FM so not too offensive first thing in the morning!

The Lumie is much nicer than early morning strains of horse-hair-on-cat-gut though. If you set it for, say, 7am, that is the time at which is reaches maximum brightness. It takes half an hour to do the sunrise so starts at 6.30am and I find I am usually starting to wake up by 6.45/6.50am.

Ignore the nonsense on the Lumie website about the 'gentle beep' noise that you can set as a back up. It is, in fact, a hideous, high pitched, loud and offensive noise that drills right into your skull. I don't bother with it.

I also really like the sunset function which does a 1/2 hour switch off from maximum brightness to dark. I set it, start reading my Kindle, find it gets too dark to see after about 10-15 minutes, so settle down to sleep and drop off very quickly.

Thumbs up from me!

I have a lumie clock and its great :D

We also have a radio alarm clock that comes on about the same time.

I feel brighter when I wake up with my lumie lamp, I don't feel like I've been torn from sleep...if you know what I mean :D

I thought ours had broken the other week and I was looking for another like it. It hadn't though, :D but I would have replaced it straight away :D

Hope this is helpful :D

Another Lumie fan here - I don't know if it makes a sound, but if it does I don't use it. The light wakes me up around 6.15 am and then my separate radio alarm comes on at 6.20. It's helped me a lot in the morning, as Couperwife says you don't feel as you've been 'torn' from sleep.

Another lumie fan here. I bought it for OH last year (having read about it on here!) and I absolutely love it. As others have said, it is a much gentler way of waking up, I have never used the sound option as I have always woken up with the light. However OH has never woken up with the light, he still needs an alarm (either me or the children as I refuse to go back to the horrible alarm clock!)

Another Lumie fan here, I love mine. We're usually awake about half way through the 30 minute sunrise.

We do set the alarm on the landline if we have to be up at a certain time, just in case. We set it to ring at 10 mins after we should have been up so it's not a shock as we're always up.

Another Lumie fan here. I use the sunrise light and the radio alarm on it comes on when it reaches its brightest. I like it because I am often awake at soem stage during its 'dawn' but I know I don't have to get up until the radio kicks on. My one is a couple of years old now and the radio reception is rubbish, but apart from that it is great and I get off to sleep much better with its sunset than I do without it.

I have this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-HF3480-01-Wake-up-Light/dp/B003M2WWQ8/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1354835259&sr=8-10

well a cheaper version - was on sale a couple of years ago, so guess it's the earlier model, altho it looks the same

It's utterly fabulous!

I wake up to bird song and light in the morning :)

Didn't think 'the birds' would be noisy enough to wake me up - but they're very insistent, so they are

If it broke (I paid about £55), would probably pay the full price to replace it - am that pleased - and it's not often that happens
