Only 364 days until we do it again

Recommended Posts

After all that planning, ordering decorating, wrapping, cooking etc it is all over for another year. I always feel rather flat after christmas, all the build up to one day, have done so since I was little. I have had a less relaxed Christma and am definitely looking forward to waving my in laws off in 6 hrs, then settling down with my family to eat the left overs and watch some telly and play some board games. My FIL is so rude, he has never once said thank you for all the meals he has consumed, he spends all of his time drinking and burping, he was surprised when MIL gave his son and me a present, as he didn't think that they bothered with us, just the Grandkids! Anyway I have nearly eaten my tongue trying not to get angry only 6 hrs to go! Families!!!!!!!

I'm already noting things I will do differently next year (which I'll immediately forget!) but I've had a nice time and managed not to lose my temper even when my sister was very annoying. As we had to behave ourselves yesterday for guests, we are having a pyjama day today - do what you like, eat leftovers, watch TV.

I know what you mean about the build-up though - all that planning and then it's over!

I'm sort of glad it's over too - 10 people in my small house isn't easy, especially when there are too very elderly and infirm ones, one with dementia and a slightly grumpy teenager. I prepared lunch whilst stepping over the dogs in the kitchen, where they'd been relegated to stop them tripping up the oldsters. Managed to stay calm and refuse to be annoyed by my sister who I am popping in to see today on my way over to spend the day with Phil and his folks. At least we'll get a lovely walk in the woods on the Chilterns.

I always think of today as my day and it is often the best day for me.

Bit of housework, then my chance to eat leftover bits and watch disaster movies. OH is working 12 hrs today and MS is working 12 hrs tonight so I will make the effort to feed them properly but other than that, let the party begin!

Lots of board games, cocktails and party food planned. :D

Sob sob sob :cry::cry: . They are not going until tomorrow!!! :wall::wall: Despite what OH and I thought we'd arranged, they are here until tomorrow morning, we could hardly say you've got to go (although that's what I wanted to say). I shall be spending the day out with my girls if it stay dry being busy or using my glass saw - can't be disturbed when using it and I have to wear ear defenders, so I won't hear the burping! Next year it just going to be us!!!!!!

We haven't really had Christmas yet. We're staying with the in-laws, so we had nice food & roast turkey for tea, but the boys haven't their presents yet. Only a few little bits in their stockings and a couple of things from in-laws.

Will be having 2nd Christmas on Sunday where they'll be having their pressies from us & my family. Then we're having a roast lunch at my mum & dads :D

We had such a perfect Christmas day. So cozy, warm - everything went to plan time wise & with the dinner. We both had lovely prezzies & it was nice watching our chickens, pigs & sheep have a good time too. The telly was good. We watched TOTP's, the snowman & snowdog, Emmerdale, Corrie & Downton. Cor what a shocker of an ending for Downton!

Out came the choccies, cat on lap & a roaring all day fire.

I loved it!!!

We had a lovely Christmas day, just the 4 of us - a doggie walk in the morning, boys all went for a hill run while I got on with the lunch and we watched The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo together in the evening. I also got some lovely pressies (which doesn't usually happen!)

Boxing Day at the in-laws with brother/sister-in-law and nephew - really nice meal and great chat :D .

No contact at all from my mother or brother which definitely added to the relaxed-ness!

All quiet here now. DS and his girlfriend only came for the day yesterday as DS is working today and GF had the farrier coming first thing today.

DD left here for work at 8.00 leaving her two girls (4 and 8 ) with me and OH, they have now been picked up by their Dad so all is quiet.

Enjoy your peace and quiet chuckmum.

I hate :( it when the house is empty but the little girls are back on Monday as DD is working so that's good. :D

I'm waiting for my guests to go .... I have really had a lovely time, and it's been great having my sister, BIL and niece here, but 'we'll leave after breakfast' translated to my sister still sitting at the breakfast table in her dressing-gown at 11.45, as I anticipated.

I'll have to offer lunch at this rate! As soon as they've gone, I'm going to fill up the bath, grab my book, put The Archers on catch-up on the laptop outside the bathroom door, and relax. There's a load of cleaning, washing and tidying up to do but it can all wait.

I know how you all feel. Christmas day was nice - 8 to feed and 3 of them were elderly. yesterday 5 of us and my father was starting to wear me out. He has mild vascular dementia and moans constantly about everything, the weather, commedians , the TV progs blah blah blah. He has left now (yaaay) - after waking us early by crashing around downstairs for which I told him off - I have time off and want to lie in as I start early 3 days a week at work in a stressful job and need to catch up on sleep. He seemed keen to get home. Two days is about my limit. He came down Christmas Eve having tried to invite himself the day before so he didnt have to cook for himself I think but I told him we were going out. Anyway over for another year.
