LottyJ1
Ahhh bless them - gave them some pellets mashed in hot water this morning which they loved and as I cleaned them out I left the run door open but none of them were brave enought to venture out. Too cold for their feel bless them.
Jenthelibrarian
Yep, mine flatly refused to come out the first day it snowed. They stood in their doorway and made angry noises. Later they braved it out and did a sort of scooting flap over the worst of the snow and had a poke about on some bare earth, gave up in disgust and went home
jackian
This is a picture of Poppy last year They have not ventured out this year ..I have been out there in Wellys, hat, gloves and everything else trying to put some more tarpaulin around the WIR as they have retreated and for the first year ever Poppy and Clover have gone into the coup and stayed there.getting older I reckon . ..Rosie being the younger is more daring and still in the WIR eating her way through the food.but there was a blizzard going through every hole in the wire. Now it is only going in two sides . I really am concerned but have done all I can .
mollyripkim
Mine have all stayed snug in their run too, usually dash out of the cube when I opened up but were much more reticent today. Trouble is the run looks quite dark inside as the snow is all over the roof.
LottyJ1
I have left them in as they didn't want to come out so they have a cauliflower hung up and mixed corn to keep them busy. Ahhhhh
jackian
This is Rosie..The brave one. The other two have not only stayed in the run but the coup as well with just their beaks sticking out on occasions. Rosie with it up to her knees . First time she had seen snow. ]
charly1979
5 out of 7 of mine have been out VERY breifly but they are back in the cube now and wont come out. Im going to make them warm milk and shredded wheat in a bit (would rather do porridge but hubbys home and as he bought it from waitrose think he would go potty) My daughter did say that she saw Marilyn grab take some snow into the cube and eat it (how she managed to do that I dont know ??) Mrs_B
Great photos and stories! I was very excited to have snow this morning and show the girls what all the fuss is about! Except...they didn't want to know! I was pretty annoyed at the lack of interest on their part, I felt very alone in my excitement hehe I did take some photos... http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y540/emmachooks/winterchooks1_zpsa5edb053.jpg The big girls stayed at their entrance for over an hour and didn't really do anything but look at the 'white stuff' in disgust! http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y540/emmachooks/winterchooks2_zps30a7f184.jpg Eglu buried by lots of snow! http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y540/emmachooks/winterchooks3_zps3b08c167.jpg The flighty girls surrounded by snow. I wanted to let them out to test the snow out but I have to clip Pebble's wing first otherwise she'd spend all day in the top of one of the trees So that's a job for when she's gone to bed, so maybe tomorrow... x
jackian
Mrs B ..By the look of that you should have given them a spade. Great photos!
Mrs_B
Thanks! LOL yes, that sounds like a good idea! The snow has been shovelled away now, but it isn't giving up any time soon and is already making a new wall up against the Eglu! Let's see what tomorrow brings x

abwsco
Mine must have gone back into their run and stayed there all day as we had no chicken footprints in the snow. I locked them up early as they weren't coming out.
penny70
My two refused point blank to go out in the snow so stayed tucked up in their run for the day, under cover so their feet stayed dry! Funny, as they were fine with heavy frost the day before. I also had to move the grub as they wouldn't eat out of it because falling snow kept touching the, when they tried. Moved it to the other side of the run and hey presto, they dug in like food was going out of fashion!
