CatieB
I currently have a HTC desire HD, which is relatively large. I am perfectly happy with it apart from the battery life and as I can now upgrade I may as well. I have to charge my phone very night and find if I surf a lot the battery will not last the day. That's no good as I use my phone for work and have to be contactable. Please help, a good phone for surfing, texting, forum use and GOOD BATTERY. Thanks
freddie
I've a nokia brick, so I'm not an expert! But both teens have samsungs, which seem to do everything they want them to do, (17yr old techy son) not the ace, the imitation apple ones battery life seems too good, in my opinion... CatieB
Would that be a Samsung galaxy? If so how weird as was just on a comparison site and after answering a few questions that was the recommended one but it didn't mention battery life, I wondered how often you'd have to charge? Cinnamon
I am an HTC & Android fan, & recently upgraded from the Desire to the One s. I am REALLY happy with it, & just bung it on to charge next to my bed every night - I have never run out of battery during daytime use despite me using it for shopping lists,Facebook, photos,Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers, calendar & so forth every day. I use it a LOT during the day - it is always in my pocket. Its a nice, slim feminine feeling phone, not too chunky for my hands,it is amazingly responsive. Best phone I have ever had, easily. CatieB
I will look at all these. I guess I need a trip to a shop to actually see them... It would be good to stay HTC as I guess I'd know the operating system well. My current handset is large, is the one you have Sarah an ordinary size phone rather than a large one? Thanks
Cinnamon
You will find the actual dimensions on the HTC site I should think. It is fairly large, but very slim - as I said,it fits into my hand perfectly & the keyboard seems suited to my slim fingers. The Husband, with his great big mitts, finds it tricky though & is going for the chunkier One X instead. I hear what you say about the operating system. I can't see myself ever moving away from Android now, especially as it synchs with the Google calendar on my Computer too, & the phone calendar also synchs between my daughters & husbands phones - essential for a busy family! I like HTC phones - I have tried Samsung & others, but they just don't do it for me
CatieB
Sarah and Freddie the phones you recommend don't seem to be available to me, I'm upgrading on Vodafone that's a shame Sarah I really like the look of it and as I have a HTC it really seems to fit the bill. I will try to visit a store tomorrow to find out more

freddie
We went into the store, and basically bullied them politely, as all these Companies need to "retain " customers now, rather than rely on new business.. Be well advised on what you want, and threaten nicely to go for a new contract somewhere else? We did, hence the kids have some rather spanky upgrades(I kept my ancient Nokia, as it does all I want it too....technophobe that I am!) We did, hence the kids have some rather spanky upgrades(I kept my ancient Nokia, as it does all I want it too....technophobe that I am!) With that in mind how mad is this. I decided on the phone and went into Vodafone shop, they printed out how much it would cost for the handset and price plan. I then compared the deals online and the offers to me were shockingly bad. I can get better with other providers or indeed Vodafone if I am a new customer. I went back to Vodafone who said they couldn't match, even their leaving department said the same. Now if I go to a third party for example carphone warehouse or phones4u then they can give me a better UPGRADE deal than Vodafone themselves I am tempted to leave in disgust. I've been a customer for over ten years.
sadietoo
That is mad indeed...Sorry to be thick but have you been haggling with Vodafone online or instore...online they can usually do you a better deal...particularly when you tell them you are terminating your contract.... I have had contracts with Vodafone for both my kids, but my DS decided when his upgrade was due, to get a contract directly with them because it was always a pain to have to go through me as the account holder when he had a problem...I was amazed at the deals they came up with in an effort to keep me as a customer....just worth a try, as a complete ps does it irritate anyone else or is it just me that Vodafone (and i'm guessing all the others are the same) NEVER remind you that your contract is coming to an end, and still insist on 30 days notice....definitely a case of buyer beware! grrrrr
merlina
Don't go to Carphone Warehouse - pretty please! They are the worst customer service ever in the history of appalling customer service. So bad that I wouldn't go back to them if you actually paid me! Re Samsung Galaxy - this is the one my techy friends are all recommending. You can, unlike many other 'modern' phones actually buy spare batteries for it. That's what's tempting me to get one - I'm on a very old HTC Trinity which I love because it runs TomTom without needing to be online, and I have 4 spare batteries - as I'm often away from a charger for quite awhile
CatieB
Yes I have tried haggling very nicely with both the shop and the leaving department. I've even got so far that I've been told my contract end date, when to give the thirty day notice and how to get my PAC code. The thing is I can get a new iPhone through work so am thinking I may as well go down that route, how mad they lose a loyal customer! The only downside is I risk loosing my 300 odd contacts as apparently its hard to transfer from HTC to an iPhone. These are essential work contacts so I'm having a good think. Valkyrie
I love my Samsung Galaxy 3. I know I've been using a brick for years but I went to O2 direct and bought it via their website. I did the reconditioned (?) one for a fraction of the price of a normal one and the contract is for £26 per month - for unlimited texts and calls. It does charge for sending photos and loading photos onto FB is expensive, so now I'm aware I do it very rarely (like sending photos from the Newbury show to my daughter). I also discovered that using their emoticon/smilies also carries an extra charge so I never use those now. Other than that it's been brilliant. Even downloaded the sky at night so I can see what's up there and finally get to spot the constellations apart from the usual easy to spot ones. Oh gosh it was so handy when I was in hospital. I love wiping the screen and hearing the trickle of water. OH hates it and I like doing the noise on purpose. Oh yeah, I love this phone! kinsk
re transfer of numbers......teenagers can do this for you Completely agree, that's how I got mine transfered onto my iphone, bit of bribery over Christmas. I had resisted and resisted the iphone hype, needed to upgrade just before Christmas, the Samsung was just too big for me so I turned to the dark side and have to say I love it! My Mum and Brother have recently got the nokia lumia and I have to say it just isn't anywhere near as easy to use.
loumabel
I am another convert to the Iphone!! after years of moaning about them and saying I will NEVER get one, I finally gave in and I have to say I Love It!!
Nikipins
Have you looked at giffgaff? I pay £10 a month for 250 mins, unlimited texts and 1 gig of data, far cheaper than any of the big providers. You have to supply the handset but still my husband bought a new iPhone direct from apple and then the £10 per month still worked out about £100 cheaper than the contract price from the most competitive provider. With providing your own handset means you can go for whatever you want, make, model, new, secondhand, reconditioned etc... Giffgaff runs off the O2 network so network coverage is good, you don't get the technical support as you do with the big providers but there is an excellent help forum. Hubby and I both run iPhones off giffgaff and love them.

Firstly 250 minutes is nowhere near enough for me, I'm on call and out of the office a lot, my current plan allows 600 minutes. And I imagine I would loose my number? In all honesty it's the new handset I want rather than a cheaper plan, I think I pay about right for my usage. Thanks though.. I'm off to look now out of interest as I've never heard of it before.
