freddie
fairly old, very skinny ex batt, with sour crop. We keep "emptying her", but she's not the best, by far. Is the kindest thing to dispatch her quickly? We tried probiotic yog, but she wont eat it, just drinking gallons
Egghead68
I have heard people have had good results using a fluconazole tablet (thrush oral tablet) from Boots etc for around £10. Mix up the powder with a bit of water and give around 1/10th of the solution to the hen twice daily. ***** NOT LICENSED FOR POULTRY IN THE UK ****. You need to start the treatment quickly. Preferably also give probiotics (Avipro, live yogurt) and something like nutridrops too. If she doesn't pick up quickly she would need to see a vet. The Dogmother
Is much coming out t'other end? LBB has a hen with persistent sour crop, the hen is otherwise well and pooing for England. She just seems to be affected by any stressful situation. I emptied her crop last week and suggested that she was kept on a fluids only diet for a couple of days (neat ACV 2.5ml 20-3 times a day and diluted poultry tonic) before trying her on food again. If your hen looks generally poorly then this might suggest an underlying condition which it is difficult to diagnose without seeing her. I'd pop her to the vet. I think the really important point is pooing for England... if something is coming through at all it is genrtaly a better sign than nothing !!! Egluntyne
Add some bicarb of soda to her water, to counteract the acidity. I've posted more fully in this thread.
