CatieB
I have just advertised an item on preloved for the first time, I said collection only as it is large, heavy and relatively expensive ( no not a cube LOL) someone has asked if I will allow them to send a courier. I have no real objection to this, one of us is home most of the time, but I am keen to avoid pitfalls and need advice. What is the best way to accept payment. What scams are there to avoid? Thanks
Mrs Webmuppet
I use Preloved. I normally only accept cash on collection. On one occasion I had to post an item and the buyer paid the money into my daughters bank account ( it's one that you can only get the money out of with the pass book and physically going to the bank) but you can pay into it via online banking. Thus reducing the risk of fraud. I also only posted the item once the money was in the bank. I suppose you could use Paypal too.
Cinnamon
I would say Paypal, but you MUST make sure you get a signed chit from the courier to say it has been collected. One thing I would say is that people who do this - buy/win something that ask if they can send a courier when it has been specified as pick up only - really annoy me. Someone will have to be in to see the thing collected, plus it will need to be packed up or wrapped.
soapdragon
Personally I avoid the whole courier thing as it generally means that YOU need to pack up the item and therefore are responsible if it gets damaged in transit as the courier will then claim it was not packed properly Although you may cut down on the number of potential buyers by doing this the hassle if things were to 'go wrong' makes up for in IMHO! Cash on collection is always the best option with larger things but you do need to specify VERY CLEARLY in the ad that this is the case and NO COURIERS! Good luck! CatieB
The item is BNIB and has never been opened. It still has the seal on so I haven't got to box it etc. however I am worried they will say something is wrong with it and how to accept the money. The lady called me and seemed very genuine. Not sure what to do, having had no local interest yet.
