Tigiga
I am having a cube and a Miss Pepperpot and a Gingernut Ranger delivered on Thursday. I want 4 hens but want different breeds so am thinking of getting 2 more Pols from a local supplier. Should I go out and get them on the same day? I understand it would be better than trying to intruduce new ones once the first 2 have settled. Also I have 3 cats what do other forum users think is the best way to introduce the hens to the cats! I have not kept chickens before although my parents always had hens when I was growing up!
Purplemaniacs
How exciting, if I was you I would get the other two the same day and put them all in together at the same time. That way no one is top chook and they will just sort out the pecking order. What colour cube are you getting? What breeds are the other two chooks you are getting? Ain't Nobody Here
Congratulations . I agree, get your 2 new girls as soon as you can (a few days won't make much difference) - it'll be much easier than doing it when the first 2 are settled. Plum
Just let the cats out with the chickens when they are settled with you and the chickens will sort the cats out or ignore them. Be around though because if the chickens flap the cats could get excited and want to play with them. To begin with I let the cats see the chickens in the run and they sniffed noses./beaks
Tigiga
Thank you all for your words of wisdom. My plan is to get a Blue Haze and either one of the following Black Sussex Amber Plymouth Rock Local supplier has these I will choose the one who I like the look of on the day. Tigiga
Hello, sorry guys for not letting you know, had a phone call to say they would be unable to deliver Thursday so they are coming today! I did change the EDD to 20th in my defence! Been awake since 3! Though I did go to sleep for a while and dreamt the weirdest dreams! I promise to let you know how it's going as soon as I can this afternoon!

Tigiga
Camera charged and box of treats ready for the girls for when they get here! Names lined up too, but will make sure they suit them before I announce! Friend coming down from London to help greet them and to come with me and help me decide on the other two, and hopefully prevent me from coming home with more than I intend! Tigiga
My lovely girls went up to bed with the minimum of encouragement- they just needed to know what exactly they had to do. Belle was up at the top of the ladder investigating at 10 minutes to 7 so I thought I would show them. In no time at all they all huddled up on the roosting bars!! They also seemed to want my company by the evening! I think the girls and I are going to get along just fine. As I have not had time to figure out how to add photos on here here is a ling to a photp I uploaded onto Facebook https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=10151936223536979&set=a.10151258360096979.509659.635746978&type=1&theater¬if_t=like hope it works! Tigiga
They did and I did!sleep well that is. They did not seem to know what to do this morning when I opened the door. I left them to it, but they were just taking turns looking out for at least half hour. I had gone in and made and had my breakfast. I went round the back and slid the roof open and put my hand in and before I knew it two had gone down, the other 3 soon followed, a couple with a bit of drama and Gertrude with great trepidation. I think she is going to be bottom of the pecking order! Good day everyone.Hope you have a nice weekend! And thank You for all your support! jackian
I am so glad you had a good nights sleep and the girls survived the night . My Miss Pepperpot is now 3 and the most beautiful of girls and top chick . I remember opening their door the first morning expecting the worst I could not get your link to the photo to work but there is a link on this site to help in the 'How to use this forum ' section .. You have to have your photos in photo bucket or similar first . It may have changed a bit since it was first put on but sure someone else will help .
