Egzandra
When we were on holiday recently, we had some of what seemed to be oats soaked in milk with a bit of fruit added, for breakfast and it tasted like a cold raw porridge, slightly sweet. It was labelled "muesli" and now that we are home my OH is asking me to make something similar. Does anyone have a recipe, please? or is it something that you can just throw in anything you like? Saronne
Hi, Yes, you can put in whatever you like - but make sure you soak the oats for a few hours - or overnight. I read somewhere that dry raw oats can wreak havoc with the digestive tract - but soaked and raw is fine, as is cooked. I think you can soak with water, juice or milk. Olly
If you look at this thread from a few weeks ago, there were some recipe links I believe.
Egluntyne
I read somewhere that dry raw oats can wreak havoc with the digestive tract I eat dry raw (gluten free as I have coeliac disease) oats most days for breakfast, with dollops of yoghurt and honey, and it is delicious. No problems here!
Saronne
I eat raw oats too, but then I did a google search for recipes and saw this - I suppose you could question it, but it kind of made sense... http://thewellnessproject.net.au/2012/11/14/why-you-should-never-eat-raw-oats/ Edited September 16, 2013 by Guest
Lavenders_Blue
I've posted a recipe on the breakfast thread Olly posted a link to with a recipe for Bircher muesli, which is soaked muesli. It's very yummy!
Chickendoodle
I soak oats in soya milk overnight - the soya seems to give a much thicker consistency that normal milk. I use 40g of oats to the same quantity in volume of milk for one portion then add a spoonful of yoghurt and some fruit and a squirt of honey in the morning. Yum
