seagullukuk
Hi folks I am sure I read on here that some people write the date of laying on their eggs. Please could someone advise if we need a special pen or do you just use a felt tip perhaps even one with glitter in
starboyhull
Our eggs dont last long enough to need to write on them and they look different so I know whos is whos, im sure you can get pens that use food grade ink......

Guest
Pencil definitely. You have to be careful with ink because the shells are porous.

Guest
Yep pencil here too - the eggs may look different but it helps to know which are the freshest!
Olly
yup - pencil, I give a lot of my eggs away so I want people to know how fresh they are.

Kathy C
We use a chinagraph pencil and write the name of the hen that laid it on as well as the date it was laid. We, and our friends, like to identify which hen produced the egg.
Lovemychooks
Oh dear, i've been using a permanent marker.....maybe I shouldn't be doing this I do remember someone posting a link to a date stamp especially for eggs so I might also try that. Guest
I have a pencil stuck to the kitchen cupboard on blu-tak, right next to my egg tray. No-one takes this one!
sparkleeeeee
i have been using OHP markers as i have loads(typical teacher!!), i havent seen the pen go thorugh but i will look inside next time i crack one open. i didnt think about it going through. i only have the two leghorns laying at the moment and one lays round fat eggs and one pointy eggs. i put the date on to see who lays when, i often get two a day but when i get one its nice to know they are laying alternate days. AJuff
We use pencil to write the date on and a symbol to identify which hen laid it. My children draw a flower on Daisy's, a light sabre on Darcy vader's and a boiling pan on Delia's. Not sure what they'll draw on Hilda's and Heather's first eggs?!
