After school club annoyance :-(

Recommended Posts

My MS who is 8 was given a months free trial for some martial art club after school, he loves his sports so I let him do it and yes as you can imagine after the month he wanted to continue which I agreed to knowing that would be another thing we would be forking out for.

Last week my friend gave me a uniform as one of her daughters had given up, today I filled out the registration forms and noticed that the cost of a new uniform would be taken out with the monthly direct debit so I emailed explain that we already had the uniform, well I had a reply saying that if it wasn't one of theirs then I had to get a new one as they like all the children in the same, I can complain at this that seems a fair comment but what has really mad hopping mad is that they also stated if it was I had to pay them £10 !! Now how on earth does that work !! In all the paperwork I had nowhere did it state the uniforms were theirs and if you quit they had to go back, it did say that if your child gave up they would buy them back so I am confused as to how this works.

Anyway as I feel this is wrong and we only said he could do it knowing we wouldn't have to buy a new uniform so I have cancelled the who shebang ! Alex is going to be absolutely gutted when I tell him but I just feel so angry about it all. I also am fed up of being a bottomless pit for money

As a Govenor I would be very concerned if I heard about this going on in our school - any 'details' should be made very clear, upfront and transparent. It sounds as though this uniform thing is another way of making more money! I'd have a word with them and say you will withdraw your son. If they feel that they are losing 'custom' because of this policy they may very well take a different view.

I totally agree with the bottomless money pit thing too......

I sent them an email last night and cancelled the direct debit etc.

The instructor has emailed me today saying that he would 'sponsor' the £10 as Alex has potential and the £10 is to cover insurance but this doesn't tally as in the original letter it implied the insurance was part of the monthly payment luckily my husband thought the same so at least that's not me misreading it. Also another mum said she wasn't asked for £10 when she used a 2nd hand uniform which again is odd.

For me its the principle of the whole thing, I will consider letting Alex carry on as they have said they would pay the insurance to keep him as he shows 'great potential' (being cynical I think its more his monthly payment will bring more potential !) I will point out that I have found it misleading as well

Your replies have reassured me that I'm not a grumpy ol' moo which as the days go by I do find more and more things will put me in a mood or have me ranting like loon :D

have to say I am so glad I'm out of this after school club thing. At our secondary school the teachers seem to do so we dont have to pay.

On a whole new moan - when my YS was 7 he did footie with someone who came in from outside. They had a short walk across 2 main roads to the field. My son got left behind and crossed 2 roads on his own - one with a crossing and one without. Also we have had some oddballs trying to abduct children in the past round this area. Was i mad - too right - I pointed out to head if he;d had been injured or killed then they would be looking at a lawsuit. After that it was done in the playground. I happened to over hear a mum moaning about the fact they werent on the field so put her right. Stick to your guns - it is never ending fleecing us parents and because we want our kids to get all opportunities we cough up all the time.

I agree; it needs to be pointed out to them (and the school) that their policy should be crystal clear.

Rosie is a member of a couple of independent (not through school ) athletics clubs as she races for the county; they are always very helpful with equipment and uniforms, selling on 2nd hand and not being too strict.
