libby22
My girl Pepper laid this this morning. Quite a shock for both of us I think She has previously laid a smaller amount of the same however, I wondered if this may be it now - simply because it is so large. Although she is only 2, she has had such trouble over the past 6 months with soft eggs, broken eggs, infections, you name it. I would be so glad if this was the last of her egg worries and she was free of the pain and discomfort. I wondered if anyone could advise as I haven't come across a lash until now. Many thanks. Luvachicken
Wow, that does look big, poor girl. I don't know much about lashes and whether that could be the last thing Pepper lays, but I'm sure someone else will come along that does. libby22
It was huge bless her. At first I thought - wow look at the size of that egg. Then realised something was very wrong She has just finished a big moult and is looking in tip top shape, but has started to lay the odd egg yolk here and there. Then there was a small lash - about as big as your finger - then this monster! Put me off scotch eggs for life I can tell you
Ain't Nobody Here
Yowch . That's the biggest lash I've seen posted on here . Hopefully now that's out of the way, she'll be able to lay normally .
libby22
Oh I didn't realise that was a possible. She used to lay like clockwork but has had so many problems, then luckily as she went towards a moult, she stopped for quite a long time. I will wait and see what happens. I thought it was her egg laying mechanism being thrown out, but perhaps that isn't the case. Poor girl.
Ain't Nobody Here
I don't know if it is . Just being hopeful! I know hens have carried on laying normally after a lash but if she's had problems already, perhaps not .
libby22
Don't you worry - I haven't the foggiest about lashes I was hopeful that this would be the last of laying for her - she is such a smasher and looks beautiful after her moult. Then I did the daft thing of googling about lashes The list was endless; lining of her reproductive organs, the reproductive organs themselves, problems after an infection, the start of peritonitis - the end of peritonitis ( ), a build up in the egg laying area - the list was endless. It went from - now your chicken will live forever to now your chicken will peg it at any minute Should not have googled The one that did confuse me most was internal laying into the body cavity - now being passed and laid. How does it get from the body cavity, back up to where it should have been in the first place and then laid like an egg I am watching her like a hawk but she is bouncing around, full of beans, new feathers glowing and digging holes to Australia so fingers crossed. Ain't Nobody Here
Oh well, as long as she's happy and healthy - an egg would just be an added bonus .
Claireabella
Gosh! I've never seen one of these before Put me off scotch eggs for life I can tell you That really made me laugh! kajlbw
Oh heck, if mine ever lay one of those I think I'll need counselling
libby22
I am definitely cautious each time I open the nest box now - just never know what is in there
