uppsy is missing

Recommended Posts

uppsy got out of the eglu when i was red mite powdering her earlier on, she goes to bed earlier to get the best spot. she has been out loads since i have had her and never usually goes far so i thought when the other girls go in the eglu i will leave the run door open so she can get back in.

i put the kids to bed and saw uppsy sitting in the middle of the lawn. the girls had gone into the eglu so i went downstairs to open the run door. when i got outside she had gone!! i cant find her anywhere.

i dont think we have any foxes and the only way out is a 8 ft hedge on one side and a 6ft fence leading to the building yard (which i searched as well)

do you think she will be ok?

has anybody else had a chicken out all night?

can a leghorn fly over a 8ft hedge (i knew i should have clipped her but she has never attempted to take off before ) i am worried about next doors dogs.

:cry::cry::cry::cry:

I wouldnt think she would be able to get over a high fence.. mine can only get up a couple of feet. You could try going out with a torch and some food to attract her? she might have bedded down for the night somewhere in your garden and you'll see her in the morning.. hopefully so.

Good luck in finding her.

I had that happen to me once - and didn't sleep a wink all night.

The next morning I found Freckles sitting in a climbing rose waiting for me.

I do so hope that Upsy has hidden herself away - it is in their nature to roost - upwards - so fingers crossed that is what has happened.

If she had been spirited away by something, then there would bound to be a feather or several lying around.

I won't be around on here tomorrow - but I do so hope she is up and waiting for you in the morning

I will try and check back late tomorrow night.

i have had a look and i cant see her, i did look in the trees but its hard to see with all the leaves, there are alot of places to hide in our garden, you never know she could be under the new climbing frame where i cant see her.

fingers crossed she will be munching away in the garden when i get up.

going to have another look then go to bed

i let you know in the morning if she turns up.

i dont know if i will ever dare let them out again after this!! :(:(

i dont think she will be going out of the run for a few days, i wonder where she was? :?

we do have a few trees so she could have been up there or under the climbing frame or in the bushes, she might even have spent the night in the windmill. lets hope she hasnt got a taste for the independent life staying out all night like a naughty teenager.

i will try not to be a worry wort next time

Feel free to worry on here as much as you like, we are all the same, it puts things into prespective when we worry on here, cos other people come up with different ideas .. x

Glad it all turned out all right in the end, .. so she is grounded for the next few days then :lol::lol:

So glad your chicken is back safe and sound. Must have been a horrible worry for you. Mine free range during the day whenever I'm at home and when I call them in at night or if I have to go out and leave them, I always give them a small food treat of some kind. That way, they only have to hear me call or see their 'treats' dish to come haring up the garden and into their eglu. Works every time.

What a relief. Katy once slept under the omlet run cover, as we had a second layer providing a canopy for the new chickens. I was away and OH didn't dare tell me he couldn''t find her! At the crack of dawn he just saw a lump appear and slide out from under the cover.

I wouldn't be complacent about foxes as I realised after an attack our hedges don't keep them out, and they could squeeze through a hole in the chicken wire. They are tempted by chickens even if they didn't visit before.
