buffie
We're putting our tree up this weekend due to daisie and my parents dog imminant visit. It needs to have a chance to survive daisie and then it can cope with the two of them. Two dogs and decorating will be impossible and it has to be done by next weekend. Bet I'll be the first on the forum! BBx
Fleata
hey bufie, we are putting the tree up Sunday too. cant wait, been trying to not do it the last 2 weeks. its been a struggle i can tell you.
Guest
If you put your tree up on Sunday - won't you be sick of it by Christmas week? The boys made me put ours up on about the 8th last year, and by Boxing Day all the decorations were doing my head in, so got turfed back to the loft for another year! They've been warned this year - no christmas songs until the 2nd (after eldest sons birthday), and no decorations up until at least the 15th. That way they might last till the 2nd Jan..... Fleata
i do eventually get sick the clutter and the tree taking up space. the tree comes down about new years. but i do love putting it up. i like the anticpation on the run up to Yule. after that everywhere looks so bare
Mrs Frugal
I like the clean feeling afterwards when the tree and decorations come down. The house feels more spacious without the clutter! Our tree isn't going up until the 18th if I can help it! We've got a big party for M&FIL's 50th wedding anniversary here on the 10th so I need as much space as possible for all of them ! The Dogmother
Yup, I do the 12 day thing too - I love the tree while it is up, but can't wait to have a good clean when we take them down, which is generally after my birthday.
Guest
We have the church carol service on 18th. Once that is done we will think about decorating and putting up the tree before 24th. It sounds as if I keep our decorations up for longer than some. We keep going until 12th night (5th January) and take it all down then. What a relief that is, so lovely to have my house back! Cate in NZ
Yikes, no way, I hate Christmas decs and if it wasn't for the children I wouldn't have any at all. But then I'm obviously an old misery. Christmas is a religious festival, but also some pagan roots, I'll enjoy the opportunity to go to church, and remember what it's all about. I'll enjoy spending valuable time away from work with my family, but why oh why we feel the need to spend a fortune on gifts people neither want nor need, send the equivalent of several forests in cards, and decorate our houses I don't understand. I do the tree, and that's it. I won't have artificial things on it, it's all natural, except the lights (I'd like candles- sadly safety wins there). I have to buy gifts, as much from charity sources as possible, but sadly not everyone appreciates those, so it's a mixture. So, sorry, I'm obviously a bit bah, humbug, but the whole spend, spend, spend thing, and who's got the best decorations or biggest inflatable Santa in the garden drives me wild. If I'm spending the day elsewhere then it's no decs at all, bar the cards & a few scented candles, pine cones & I usually relent and have a sprig of mistletoe. I simply can't be doing with the rest. Crooked Chicken
I love Christmas and the run up to it. The first weekend in Dec my decorations go up, and they all come down again before starting back at work in January. I get very excited this time of year. I make most of my family cards and Ben has made his cards for his friends. We're going to make paper chains for his bedroom. I have a very small family and the last couple of years, we all buy just one present for one person, so everyone gets something, but we don't spend hundreds on unwanted, useless gifts. (The children will obviously get loads though!!! - and we bought all their pressies a couple of weeks ago). If I was able to, I'd go to every single carol service - awful voice, but I love singing. I love watching all the old films on the TV; Wizard of Oz, Little Women, Its a Wonderful Life. Love all the twinkly lights down the street and in the town. I love Christmas cake, mince pies, Christmas pudding, brandy butter etc. I could go on, and on, but basically, everyone celebrates Xmas differently. It has always been a very special time of year for me; my mum and dad use to make Christmas magic for me and my sister, and I will never forget that. Anyway, I'm off to hit the sack now. I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ........................................... XX

Lesley
I have a question from Jake via my daughter. They have been filling shoe boxes with gifts for the Samaritans Purse charity. Lauren is 'older and wiser' this year but Jake wants to know why Father Christmas doesn't take presents to the poor children. He says they need them more than he does so why don't they get them? Apparently, he is like a dog with a bone over this one and as I have to collect him from school - I get it next Anyone got any good answers? Lesley
I like that BB - thank-you. It will go along with what I thought - that he can't take everything they need so we have to help.
Sheilaz
I'm probably a bit late with this, and the above idea is good. But, I seem to remember satisfying a question of that ilk with pointing out that some places must be really hard to get to, even with a bit of magic, when there's so much to do on Christmas eve, whereas the boxes will go next time a lorry is taking supplies out there. What's the next question? What a lovely boy, thinking these things through.
Lesley
Thank you both. He was OK with the explanations. Then he decided what he is going to put on his list - some smoked salmon and a rabbit's backbone.
