WitchHazel
The Co-op is increasing the density of it's indoor-reared-chicken, and has been stripped of it's "Good Chicken" award. Very sad. http://www.ciwf.org.uk/news/meat_chickens/coop_goes_back_on_chicken_welfare_promise.aspx
Leicester_H
I have signed the objection. Not sure whats happening with the Co-op at present ? They are selling off Farm land around here.
merlina
They've been doing market research about abandoning their basic co-operative values. It's all very sad really I've signed the thing and put it on Facebook too
WitchHazel
It's very sad. Due to the losses made by their banking arm, they are selling the farms and possibly the pharmacies as well. It's something like 85% owned by venture capitalists now.
soapdragon
Venture capitalists? Sounds like the death knell to me....such a shame

Lavenders_Blue
Very saddened to hear this. I do most of my shopping at the Co-op - largely because it's my local supermarket but also because I like their ethics. However it seems they are becoming more and more like the other supermarkets. I seem to remember that they didn't exactly come out of the milk prices scandal smelling of roses, being the supermarket that paid just about the lowest prices to dairy farmers
The Dogmother
We have one only a mile away, so it's handy for picking up last minute bits. I am disappointed at them selling out like that.
sjp
the rumour about the pharmacies is that one of the big 5 supermarket chains has or is about to buy them that's from a few staff members that I know that work for that chain
