Lydia
Evening We're adopting Dexter tomorrow from the local animal rescue and he is a long haired boy. Having always owned short haired cats, I wonder if anyone can recommend the best tool to groom him with, please? He seems a pretty chilled boy who is used to being groomed. We already have a Furminator which we use with our 2 resident short haired moggies. However, I understand there are versions for long and short haired cats? Will this be ok to use with Dex as well? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks
Olly
Can't recommend anything as it's some years since my gorgeous longhair left me, and she hated being groomed anyway. I just wanted to say congratulations on the adoption and please let's have some pictures once a Dexter has settled in.
dancing cloud
Ooh yes, pix of the new arrival please! I'm sure Dexter's going to be one very happy boy in his new home Was going to suggest a furminator or a zoom groom, followed by a standard wire teasel for fine combing once any knots are out. My Cleo's not long-haired but is fluffy and all of these make her coat smooth and shiny (and she just loves all the attention!). Did we mention we like pix ...? Lydia
Thank you so much for your help, Ollie and dancing cloud. We have started Furminating him with what we've got and he seems fine with that. I'll investigate getting a wire teasel thingy too. We're now on the long, slow process of introductions to our resident elderly ladies. At the moment we have an uneasy truce going on whereby Dex spends the day upstairs and them downstairs and then they venture upstairs when we go to bed and Dex goes into his boy boudoir (aka our box room) for the night. He's a quiet boy who doesn't move around a lot. He has not shown any inclination whatsoever to go outside (not that he can at the moment, anyway) but does enjoy watching the world go by from the windsill. I wonder if he has ever had any toys to play with as he doesn't seem to 'get' it. It's early days, though. It's years since I used Photobucket and I had to give myself a quick lesson! It's changed a bit since 2007, hasn't it?! Anyway, here's a picture of him while still at the shelter. Hope this works.
dancing cloud
He is absolutely gorgeous! I can see how you couldn't resist. Just look at those ears - and those feet With regard to toys, you could try him with a wigglywiggler (from ebay or the cat-chat site). None of mine have been able to completely resist them, though Tozi always pretends he wasn't playing with it really . You may have to get your ladies one each as well. Small wire teasel-type brushes are available from most pet shops (or market stalls). Mine was officially for small dogs, though I've never told the cats that
