The Dogmother
My big cream tabby Biscuit has started to go bald in his groin area and inside his back legs; I thought the other day that his back legs looked skinny form the back, but in hindsight is was down to the thinning fur (he has a very dense coat. I can't see any signs of soreness, rash, fleas, mange etc and I don't think that he is over-grooming - that would require just too much effort on his part! He is otherwise well, so I have decided to leave it for now and see how things go, but I wondered if anyone else had seen this, or codul shed any light on the possible cause. Groovychook
My cat Willow is like this and the vet swears that it's a flea allergy although she's regularly treated with advocate. I think it may be some sort of pollen that irritates her as she's a real outdoors girl and loves to lay in long grass. Once she starts getting itchy, she starts to groom and continues to over groom. When it's at it's peak in the summer months, she can get quite scabby. If your boy's not an obsessive groomer though, there must be some other reason for it. Sounds quite mysterious
The Dogmother
Yes, he doesn't seem at all bothered about it. He is out most of the day, and prone on my bed at night and I haven't seen him mithering at it.
Saronne
One of my cats has this problem periodically. My vet said that cystitis can be triggered by stress and can cause them to over-groom in the groin area - but if your cat isn't stressy, then not really sure.. chickencam
Both of mine get like this in the winter, we put it done to them getting too warm by the wood burner, they are fine during the summer. We have just come back from a week away and they have been shut in the house with a pet carer coming in once a day and they have both grown loads of fur back. Either that or we just stress them out in the winter but I don't think so, they always look pretty relaxed stretched out in front of the fire to me
The Dogmother
I will have a proper look later, but he is now having a seasonal moult all over as usual for this time of year.
