Ain't Nobody Here
I have to visit a physio every now and then when my lower back pain gets difficult to ignore. She told me about The Stick, a device you can use to massage muscles yourself. I've ordered one from Amazon and have been reading up about it while I wait for it to arrive, the reviews all seem excellent and I have high hopes . You can use it on your neck/shoulders if you suffer from stiffness there, on all your leg muscles if you're sporty and anywhere on your back. There are different sizes/types depending on your needs. I'm really looking forward to trying it out . It may seem pricey for a "stick" but if it saves me one trip to the physio, it'll have paid for itself. Note: I got mine for £38.65 but next time I looked it had gone up to £42.45 so keep an eye out for the seller Body Masters who seems to have the best prices. Alis girls
Thanks for thread - i am awaiting the injection in the spine job - but might look into this for some relief. Thankfully NHS is funding and as it is down to working for them I have a bad back I think they should. Interested to know how and if this helps. Keep us posted

chickencam
Me too, I get a lot of upper back pain and stiffness in my neck and shoulders. I will take a look and wait for you to report back.
Ain't Nobody Here
Well, it's arrived . So easy to use and no need to be anywhere special, like lying on a bed or floor or wearing anything particular. You just roll it back and forth on wherever you have a problem. Or even where you don't! Too early to say if my back will benefit but I'll keep you posted . PS My son knows a sports physio (also a member our running club) who says The Stick is very good. My son's thinking of getting the short version on her recommendation. Edited April 11, 2014 by Guest
WitchHazel
What size did you get Vicky? And how tall are you please?
Ain't Nobody Here
I got the standard Stick (24"). I'm 5ft 6in. Here's another site that explains the sizes http://www.thestick.ca/pick-a-stick-mainmenu-42.
WitchHazel
The choice is overwhelming, especially with the extra bits. I've decided to try the Hybrid version.
Ain't Nobody Here
It doesn't seem much different from mine, tbh! Not sure why they need so many sizes. Found an exercise which feels great on the shoulderblades - It apparently also helps prevent plantar fasciitis .
Valkyrie
That sound interesting. Will follow your updates with interest!
Ain't Nobody Here
Must admit I find it hard to pinpoint the bit on my back that aches but have being using The Stick on it as best I can. It certainly feels great on aching shoulders. OH has been using it (skeptically!) on his shinsplints after a marathon last week and reports an improvement! I think it will come into its own on sore leg muscles after a long run - due to a sore knee I can't test out that theory though . I reckon the short one would be great for just legs - may even get one so we have a portable version!
sparkysmum
They had them at the Expo arena at the weekend. Thought they were pretty impressive and much more portable than foam rollers
Ain't Nobody Here
I hope you bought one - I bet they would be a dream for post-marathon legs .
Leicester_H
Hi Thanks for posting about 'The Stick'. I often pull back muscles - sort of behind the shoulder blades - sometimes its really painful, sometimes quite minor. I have just bought a stick hoping that if I massage these muscles regularly, I will pull them less. H PS - Amazon really waste packaging. Stick is 62 x 4 x 3 cm. It came in box 120 x 11 x 11 cm !! Ain't Nobody Here
I got the same box . Hope it works for you. I'm not sure I'm managing to target my lower back pain but it's great on shoulders and I'm sure will be really useful for sore leg muscles - just haven't had any yet! Ain't Nobody Here
Well, I can now confirm that it's great on sore muscles! Went for a shortish run but ran quite fast (got a surprise PB!) so I now have sore thigh muscles, front and back. Using The Stick feels great - in that way that rubbing sore bits feels strangely good! - so I'm pleased I got it .
sparkysmum
Went for a shortish run but ran quite fast (got a surprise PB!) . Ehhh What language is that ANH Was saying to Simon only this morning as we poughed thro a muddy footpath that trail running (well shuffling.....) would be fun, if only there were others slow enough to shuffle with . Am determined to orienteer when Hazie has left home, think that could be a lot of fun, so long as someone else read the maps Ax
Ain't Nobody Here
Oh, I use all the lingo, me - blame my boys . OH and I tried orienteering a couple of months ago - it was good fun but I'm not sure if I'd want to do it competitively, it's quite nice to go at your own pace! OH was very good and ran at my pace . Haven't managed to get out again - he's too busy running up mountains .
