HarrisonFamily
Yesterday about 4 0'clock, one of my rescue girls was taken by a fox from the garden whilst 8 noisy children were playing in it....she was taken within about 5 metres of where the children were. My remaining girls are in a large walk in enclosure but love there 30 minutes freedom everyday, my garden is big with lots of bushes - shrubs and trees.... Is the netting planned to keep hens in or will it help keep foxes out - with lots of children I think electric fences cannot be an option. Any ideas or will my girls have to be locked in... gavclojak
The netting will definitely not keep the foxes out unless it's electrified I'm afraid. How high are your fences, I see a fox some evenings scale my next doors 6 foot fence like it wasn't even there, they are as agile as a at with the strength if a large dog....not a great combination if your a chicken keeper. The only thing to keep them safe is a secure enclosure or an electric fence
redbug
I only let my chooks out if I'm in my garden Seen foxes about but not in my garden but frightened to take the chance
Olly
The netting will keep hens in, not keep predators out. I would have assumed that eight children playing in a garden would have been enough to keep the fox off, but unfortunately urban foxes are not scared of people. I only let my hens free range when I am actually working out in the garden. Even then there are times when I pop in to use the loo, go round the corner to fill up a watering can, go into the garage to find a tool - it could easily happen.
