Jennifer Jane
I have (been) volunteered to hold a needle felting workshop for members of my WI. There has been lots of interest but we have many members who are extremely talented and imaginative crafters and I'm not one of them - I'm quite worried abbout letting them down I want to give them something unique and useful or beautiful to take away with them and I don't think they would be impressed with the little felted "cat" that is my avatar. I wondered if any of you had any bright ideas about something that would be easy to make but would look fabulous. I was thinking about a brooch maybe, and members I spoke to were keen on that idea. Also the best place to get supplies from? I have quite a lot of wool fibre, though could do with more colours, but will need more needles and felting mat. I will be very grateful for any advice... craftyhunnypie
When we did needle felting, we made hares, sat upright. Look up Ruth Packham felting in google & you will see what we made. Others made owls, penguins etc. For bird legs plastic coated wire was bent into a U shape & feet formed on each end of the leg. Then fibre was prodded around the U bend of the wire until it was 3D Owl body shape. How about little 3D teddy bear brooches. Those wouldn't be too difficult. Good luck, you''ll be fine. Plum
Why not do your little felted cat as a brooch to teach techniques and have pics or book to stimulate other ideas and their interpretation will bring out creativity. Just say I don't expect you to copy this design. Not sure where is reasonable for supplies Lesley will tell you, I usually get bits at shows but can't remember who from Your little felted cat is cute Those animals are amazing Emma I'd love to take a class to make one
jasperaliceuk
I did one for my local women's group and as it was nearing Christmas we made little Xmas Pud ornaments to hang on the tree. Very simple for beginners as it was basically a ball which they could adorn with icing, leaves and berries. It probably needs to be something basic, not too fiddly, so that they can get to grips with the technique. Then if they find it is something they like doing they'll probably just go off and have a go at home! Sue
LolaLayla
What about Kirstie's needlefelted robin? I have checked and it is still on the internet to view. I made it and found it quite easy to do. The more creative of your ladies could possibly design other birds to make as well. Good luck
Jennifer Jane
Thanks for your suggestions. I did think that if it was near to Xmas then tree ornaments would be a great idea - it is looking like end of July though, so probably not suitable - this time! I remember Kirstie's robin - I think I have the book, had forgotten about that . I also have a couple of books, one which concentrates on animals and birds, the other is a beginnners guide which has a few different ideas. I prefer wet felting, having been introduced to it on this forum, but the logistics of doing that put me off In fact I'm sure there were a couple of suggestions for stockists then, will have to have a delve around... I can't believe how popular it seems to be, looks like I may have to run 2 sessions to fit everybody into my little house.
Plum
Laurmurf had wet felting at her birthday party. Omletina demonstrated it. Great success but I suppose it depends how many are going to take part.
Luvachicken
No advice I'm afraid, but wanted to say that I like your purple cat. I tried needle felting a bird in a little kit from hobbycraft but it took forever, looks nothing like a bird and I stabbed myself twice. Not a hobby for me

Not a hobby for me Thank you I stabbed myself first time I tried needle felting and bled for some time. I did pre-warn everybody in case some of the ladies are on Warfarin, I really don't want blood on my carpet

Luvachicken
Oh dear it's a dangerous hobby The vision is terrible Think I'll stick to beads then, almost harmless although it still involves a needle
