mullethunter
Hello After wanting some since I left home over 15 years ago I've finally got my chickens! 2 SL Wyandotte bantams (Penny and Amy), and 2 12 week old Pekins (Bernadette and Shelly). My post is about Bernadette (mille fleur) who I'm slightly concerned could become Bernard! Her comb although still small is much redder than Shellys (lavender) - although only a suggestion of wattles so far - what do you think? Thanks very much. Beantree
Hello Mullethunter. I couldn't open the photos, but a slightly reddening comb isn't something to worry about. In fact you will be watching for that when she comes into lay. If the sizes are the same there is no problem. You could go back to the breeder and look at cockerels the same age, just to give yourself something to compare to?
mullethunter
Thanks for the quick reply and I hope that you're right. I don't think I've posted the link right, but if you copy this bit http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d135/mullethunter1/Bernie_zps8371bb0b.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d135/mullethunter1/Pekins_zps6e51274e.jpg into a browser I think it works

jackian
I did manage to open it by copy and pasting the top row of the second entry (if that makes sense) but I have not a clue but they are lovely chickens . Jackie x

Luvachicken
Sorry, I don't know either, but just wanted to say how lovely they are
Beantree
The reddening comb does look a little bit larger than the other Mullethunter. Too early to say though I think. You will get varying sizes of combs in pullets. Some can be half the average size and some twice the average size, which is a big difference. daxigirl
I'm going for both hers. The Pekin boys I've hatched have all declared themselves by 5 weeks, there's no mistaking them. Wait for Miller30 she'll know for sure.
chuckmum6
I think they are girls, from what little I can see the tail feathers look girlie.
mullethunter
The two of the don't behave any differently to each other. They're very friendly and jump/fly onto us to escape the 18mth old Wyandottes when they're all out together. I really hope you're all right and Bernie is a girl - I'm very attached to her already after 2 weeks!
