Our new chickens!

Recommended Posts

Just got our first ever chickens today, three Silkie hens! We got them from Birchfield Poultry in Sheffield, who were really helpful and took us on a little tour where we saw loads of different breeds. Our hens are now settling in to their new home, all we need now are some names. One has been named Moonstone but we're not sure what to call the others. Any suggestions?

They are so pretty and soooo lovely and white :D

How about calling your boyfriend's one Ariel ?

You will love keeping chickens.

I bet it won't be long until you start getting more.

Morehens is very contagious so be careful.

And a big welcome to the world of chickens from me :D

Thanks for the welcome and the suggestions. They do look really white now; they were a bit wet and soggy this morning after launching themselves out of the coop to play in the rain. I really can't wait to get them out of the coop for some play time tomorrow (if it's dry enough), had to exercise a lot of self control today to leave them to settle into the coop. After weeks of thinking of possible names and about 5 minutes after posting this, I've just had the idea of naming them after constellations or anything to do with space. I think I'm going to call mine Luna, I think that works quite well with Moonstone. Two down, one to go!

So the Mr. thinks he now has a name (Hedwig) for his hen but he's still not fully committed lol.

Also, I managed to get a pretty good close up picture of Luna after I finally got her out to play. :D She's not quiet tame yet and I keep trying entice her (and the others) with treats but they don't seem too fussed. So far the only things they seem to have enjoyed are apples and bread with marmite on.
