Ideally you need invertimicin, diatomaceous earth and mite spray and powder. The wooden coop will need to be completely emptied of all contents. You need to do this on a dry day as you will need to thoroughly spray the coop with mite spray. Is you WIR made of wood? This will need to be sprayed too.

Give the girls a good dusting with red mite powder, make sure you get round the vent and under their wings, and if you can get some put some invertimicin on the back of their necks. This does have an egg withdrawal period though, so if you don't want to use it you don't have to.

When the coop is dry put clean bedding in but mix it with some diatom. You can also dust the coop with this. I would put a good amount on the run floor too, and if you have a dust bath, empty it. Replace bathing material and mix in some diatom.

It's a pain I know, but it needs to be done. Good luck :?

I have cleaned it all out and sprayed with a mite killer then covered the house with diatom. I have put a powder on the girls but possibly not enough. I checked again for red mite and couldnt see any about today. Girtie has not been herself today either just sat all day not even bothered about treats :-( I check regulary for red mite so cant have been in there a week, could she be suffering because of it?

They can get a bit down with red mite, but sounds like you got in top of it early. Keep checking. You could dust them againg in a couple of days. I found if you run your fingers in the deepest drevices of the cop you will see if there's any red mite lurking. They are attracted to warm, so slowly and firmly run your fingers in any joints. It will look like blood splatters on your fingers. The odds are in your favour now the weathers got cooler. Fingers crossed for you :)
