marshhens
Hi all - chooks been here for 5 days, eating/drinking well and first run out today. However one of my Daxies is still a bit of a challenge Anyway - my question - what products do you use to clean out the Grub & Glug containers? also - what do you use to wash the Eglu and Roosting Bars? My local farm store sold me a sachet that needs to be dissolved, makes 5 gallons but only lasts a couple of days . . . but it must be good as it can be used for Foot & Mouth precautions!! thanks! ali-s
For washing the glub and grub I use hot water and washing up liquid. If OH is not around I sling them in the dishwasher and use the economy setting For the Eglu I hose off any loose poo first and then give it a wash using hot soapy water (washing up liquid again) with a few drops of either tea tree oil or lavendar oil or a bit of both. Was the sachet you bought Virkon S? It is very good but very expensive. I have used that once when I lost 2 Chickens in a short space of time and wanted to make sure the Eglu was clinically clean. starboyhull
I use either washing up liquid or a surface cleaner........The glub and glug usually end up in the washing up bowl......
The Dogmother
Must've been Virkon - that's brilliant. Like Ali, I wash mine with warm soapy water and tea tree oil, or blast it with the pressure washer. When it's dry, I sprinkle it with Stalosan F disinfectant powder. marshhens
Yes - it is Virkon!! Thanks for all this - I have been driving OH mad, insisting on using a separate sink and Milton - glad that day to day washing up liquid is fine!! Thanks so much. Snowy
I use Ecover multisurface cleaner. Leaves a lovely lemony scent. That combined with a good dusting of red mite powder leaves them smelling lovely!
MisHapp
Hi I use Virkon every month or so for a really good clean. Otherwise, I use what I can lay my hands on at the time!! Citricidal, washing up liquid, multi-pupose cleaner... I do a sprinkle with red mite powder/diatom when it's all dry. MH x
Tweety
Hi, I clean my cube and roosting bars with CJs Biological Cleaner and then spray with Clinell Disinfectant Spray - both available online from CJ Wildlife. Then a sprinking of red mite powder. I just use ordinary washing up liquid and hot water for the Grub & Glug.
chelsea
We clean the eglu and the grub and glug with Ecover. We did buy a huge container of disinfectant from our local farm store which was suitable for all poultry and livestock but we've yet to open it! chrisnrob
We also use Ecover washing up liquid to clean the Eglu and roosting bars. Have never thought about using Virkon to clean every so often but has now got me thinking. We use it to clean the cat pens so can get it quite easily...
