Willow
I passed a rather unusual personalised number plate on the M40 the other day. It was just '09' on an oldish (vintage ?) audi appeared to be driven by a lady in her 60's but only got a quick glimpse. Anyone got any thoughts as to who it might be ? '09' strikes as a difficult number plate to buy so wondered if it was a government car?
sjp
it's a very old number plate probably from about 1909ish if it's a UK plate I don't think is a government plate it's certainly not a MOD plate or a diplomatic plate
Geoid
It's most likely O9 (oscar 9, not zero 9), which can be purchased as a personalised plate. Side note: diplomatic plates will have an X or D in the centre.
Willow
Side note: diplomatic plates will have an X or D in the centre. Is that as part of the number ?
Bramble
I reckon it's probably an early plate from when registrations were first introduced as others have said which has been transferred to newer cars. It could also be a Channel Islands plate - I think they only have numbers on, no letters (though obviously it would still be a very early one)? Charlottechicken
It was just '09' on an oldish (vintage ?) audi It's registered as an Audi A3. DVLA shows first registration as 2007 (and all the other info ).
The Dogmother
An ancient aunt used to have an old Humber with the original plate of RON 99, sadly she sold the car (complete with plate ) to a 'nice man who knocked on her door and offered her £200' for it he must have been laughing his socks off, taking advantage of a frail old lady like that. Willow
It's registered as an Audi A3. DVLA shows first registration as 2007 (and all the other info ). A newer Audi than I thought then! Didn't realise you get that info on-line. I remember thinking the number plate would cost significantly more than the car. I did a quick search on a personalised plate site and the nearest it suggested as an alternative was 'O 49' which would be £56,700.00 I used to wonder what the appeal of a personalised plate was then I saw my surname on a car (with 'E' as a '3') and thought actually I'd rather like that plate I'm also spending way too much time diving on motorways these days DM fraudsers preying on old peoples ignorance/lack of worldliness make me
Leicester_H
Didn't realise you get that info on-line. Just go to https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax - enter reg and make of car. H
chickencam
Interesting, I just put in a couple of registration numbers from cars we used to have, didn't know that you could do this. Has it just come about since the tax disc stopped?
Charlottechicken
You can use the DVLA site, if you know the make of car. It's been available for a few years However, I have found a few places online where you just enter the registration number and the details come up, then you can proceed to DVLA site for all the spec. One of which is ASDA's tyre sale website (I never knew ASDA sold tyres ). An ancient aunt used to have an old Humber with the original plate of RON 99 Now on a BMW X3.
